I've had a uterine infection!

Hello everyone and thanks Kerry for passing on my message in 3rd Tri!

Like Kerry said, I've had a bit of a rough time this last week... Towards the end of last week I started to feel like I had a cold coming, you know, all cold, shivery and achey. I figured it was just tiredness (it seemed to be worse come the evening) and my body getting over the shock of labour. But then Saturday night (TMI Warning!!) I passed 4 very large clots which looked funny, so I called the midwife on call who said it was quite probably normal but to keep one to show the midwife who was coming to see me the next day for our routine check-up....

The midwife came Sunday morning, by which time I was feeling really rough. She checked me over and I had a temp of 101F and my BP was 160/100. She said the clot looked like possible retained placenta and so she promptly rang the hospital who told her I must go in ASAP.

I was admitted and put on two lots of IV antibiotics... apparently I had a severe infection of my uterus (chorioamnionitis i think they called it) and they told me I was extremely lucky it was picked up early and even moreso that I didn't get it while I was still expecting, as it can be fatal for both mother and baby!!

Come Monday night I was feeling much better and taken off the IV and put onto the tablet forms of the drip. I demanded that they let me home as I didn't want Morgan to have to be in the hospital any longer than was necessary as I didn't want her catching something while she was there with me!

I'm still feeling a bit delicate, and have to take it really easy and steady for a while. It's also got me really down mentally, and so the whole family are on PND-watch at the moment! Luckily, Morgan is doing great and putting on weight just nicely. I can't believe she's 11 days old already!!! Crazy!!! I'll try and post some up to date pics as soon as I can... she's changing so quickly!!

So if any of you new mums start feeling even a little bit off colour after you've had your LO's, you must let your MW or Doctor know! Mine shouted at me for not telling her as soon as I felt ill, but like I say, I didn't think it was anything unusual!!!!

Take care of yourselves everyone!!
