Help needed on when baby makes her appearance

I have decided to post this on this part of the forum Posted in another section before) hoping that someone can help me please.

Morning ladies

I have realised that time is ticking by very quick and I have not even started to prepare for babs arrival.

My sister hs just sent me a book, The New Contented Little baby Book by Gina Ford and from what I have read so far, has some interesting and helpful facts.

BUT, I wondered if anyone had found a website or book where I can get other info from like:

Best position for cot? Temperature of the room? How to position your baby to reduce risk of SIDS? etc

Sounds daft maybe, but I am in Bulgaria and I want to read and find out things for myself without having to rely on OH and so I can educate his mum also!!!! It's getting scary to be honest, I feel totally unprepared. My mum comes out in a few weeks so an y books you can recommend which might help me as a reference would be great. But then I am on my own till October, after babs is born, mum and dad are coming out but not sure when!!

It's things like, after feeding, how do I know when I've winded baby enough, until what age do I hold the chin/head before putting over shoulder, I can change a nappy but what comes before that, wipe, talc, or cream comes before talc, how soon do you use baby soap, how long do you just bathe in water, etc etc etc etc etc??????????

My one panic is that our house will not be built before our baby is born and the house we have now does not have central heating. Luckily, it will still be fairly warm when she is born, so no new new born to deal with in the winter. My concern is we have a wood burner, it heats the whole house as it's only small but during the night it goes out and believe when I say our bedroom is the coldest room in the house so we will need a heater to keep the room at a nice temp, but what temp??????

I am going to go through this book I have for info so I can make a list of things I need to buy so I can mark them off once they are bought. I'm getting nervous, no regrets at all and I can't wait for babs to make her appearance, but I feel sick with nerves, Can I do this????????????

How have you all been getting on with preparing for your baby? Am I panicking for nothing? Will it come natural to me?

If any one can offer any tips on which books to look at or website, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you

Not sure if the following helps or not... this is what we've been told by our health visitor.

Best room temperature is between 18-22 degrees. At this temperature, baby should be wearing a vest and sleepsuit, with 2 layers of blankets. Any hotter or colder, add or take away layers as needed!

To reduce the risk of SIDS, put baby in the cot with her feet at the bottom of the bed, lying on her back. make sure covers are tucked in well so she can't wriggle underneath them!

And make sure the cot isn't next to a window or radiator, for obvious reasons!

Not sure how helpful or accurate any of that is, but I hope it helps some.

Hiya

I bought a book called Your Pregnancy Bible by Dr Anne Deans and I loved it. Its quite factual but covers everything from pregnancy (including loads of complications in a special section) and then what to do with a baby... things like.. how to wash them, how to change a nappy, prepare a feed (or breastfeed), what to buy for their arrival, temperature, burping... you name it, its in there. Its the only book I've needed...and I've just supplemented it with B&B.com for a bit of morale support from the other mums (and that all-important "is my baby normal" reassurance!)

I bought mine from amazon... get your olds to buy it for you!

I did buy some other books, but although I read them they weren't any use!

Check out a few more books than just Gina Ford, I personally disagree with most of her ideas, so make sure you do a bit more reading before you make up your mind about the different methods. Try the No Cry Sleep Solution by Elisabeth Pantley.
Or for websites - www.babyworld.co.uk/

Thanks everyone for your help. I will make a list of books for my mum to look at and she will bring the one she thinks will be best. There are so many books out there, my cousin has leant one to my mum to send to me, but by the time I get it, it will be pretty much too late as it's more to do with pregnancy than after birth. I would get the book when Im 30 - 31 weeks.

Thanks again girls, you've all be a great help
