I always fill the bottle with about an ounce more than he needs. I'd rather throw away an ounce than have him suck air. He takes what he wants then.
Let LO lead the way, as long as he isn't loseing weight and is happy, he's fine

We all have to start somewhere Jess so dont worry, dont expect too much of yourself too soon
Trust your instinct a bit and fiddle round with times and measurements till you find what works for you and joshua, all babies are not the same. I know when my time comes ill be the same,i havn't got a clue!! Im trying to read books and they all contradict each other so i think if i have any probs im just going to come on here and ask you guys lol

Hi Miss Jess!

As others mention, trust yourself and your baby. He won't let himslef go hungry, I'm sure! As for guidlines, here's what our nurse gave us when Simon was born:

_____Age _____________ number of bottles/day ______________ number of ounces/bottle
birth-15 days ___________________ 6-10 ___________________________ 1.5-3.5
15 days-1 month _________________ 6-8 ____________________________ 2-4
2-3 months_______________________5-7 _____________________________5-7
4-7 months ______________________4-6 _____________________________6-8
8-12 months _____________________3-4 _____________________________6-8
1-2 years_______________________20-30 ounces of milk/milk products per day

Hope this helps you see you're doing fine along the way! But don't use this to freak out, though. It's just a guidline!!!

MissJess,

By the way, my name is Jessica as well and I happen to live 1.5 hours away from you! Are you a teacher, hence the "Miss"?

Curious me...

Baby will eat at own pace - At first Caitlin was taking an ounce every 3 hours and my HV said nothing to worry about and when she dropped weight from birth weight she said its more than common and on next weigh she went back up.

Caitlins always been a small & plenty shes only just been taking 7oz but you knwo what at least once a day she'lll have 3-4oz still and thats all she wants!

Try winding baby after feed little rub little hold (a break) and try again maybe x
