I bleed for 4 weeks after LO was born and if I was really busy it got heavier. I think if the clots are bigger than a 50p then you should contact the drs.

Alex is three weeks old today too. I am still bleeding, but not as heavily - still need to use the thick maternity towels!!! I am still a bit swollen too - I can only walk for about 20 minutes max. Midwife told me that as long as clots weren't as big as a 50 pence piece, then there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I am getting tummy cramping too - guess it's still part of the recovery process? x

I was exactly the same-bleeding stopping and starting and with clots. Mine stopped totally 5 weeks after Skyla's birth.

I bled for about 6 weeks after Joe was born. It seemed to stop a few times and then started again. I'm not sure about clots though, maybe ask your MV or HV if you are worried hun.

Ps. congraulations on baby Harry xx

Hi girls, I gave birth 5 weeks ago. At 2 weeks I started bleeding heavier than I had been the previous few days. Few clots but nothing huge. No cramping. I also had fever. Initially my gp put the fever down to mistitis. However, I didn't think it was that from reading people's horrific stories, a day later when the bleeding was getting heavier I phoned the midwife service explained my bleeding and they told me to go to A&E, I was diagnosed with an infection and secondary postpartum haemorrhage and given antibiotics. I'm now better and the bleeding has stopped. The biggest concern at this point is retained placenta, it looks like I'll be ok as I've now been off antibiotics for 10 days and there is no sign of the infection.

My advice would be check your temperature regularly, anything above 99 F, 37.2 C may be an indication of a problem. And watch out for offensive odour, mine was very slight, in fact the midwife couldn't smell it, but to me it smelt off.

Hope this helps!

I was bleeding for 7 weeks - though it was very light at the end. Mine would get much heavier if I did anything physical. I shoveled the driveway at 4 weeks and the next day was exhausted and bleeding much more - that taught me a lesson! Definitely keep the physical exertion to a minimum until the docs gives the ok!

xx
