Doing a number 2!

Heloo everyone. I gave birth to my beautiful son 3 days ago and have yet to open my bowels. Is this normal? Does it hurt? I am scared. I have 2nd degree tears that have had stitches and am so worried about this.

I have had wind quite badly but as of yet no urgency to go. Any help gratefully recieved x

i was cut pretty badly by my doctor, I was terrified to have a bowel movement after. However, it did NOT hurt too bad once i did, I think it was about three of four days after I had my daughter.

Someone told me to freeze several sanitary towels for a few hours and then to press them hard against the stitches... it really helped. And then lots of painkillers, too!

I should try and go as soon as possible. The longer you wait, the harder the poo will become...

If your very worried then try a gentle laxative like aloe vera from holland and barrett. my OH works there n gets ladies in all the time with exactly the same worry. As we tried it out on me, we know it works the bowels gently so as not to cause diarrhoea but to make your stools soft enough to be able to pass without pain and worry

It's really not that bad, honest! I had two 2nd degree tears and a cut and was stitched up all over the place, and was really worried about going after everyone telling me it would hurt. But it didn't, to be honest it hurt more to wee!

Take a book or magazine in to read, it helps relax you. Don't strain and it will be fine. Hold a sanitary towel against yourself and it will make you feel less like your lady bits are going to fall out. Remember to drink plenty too.

And uhm... how to put this.. if things are a little hard... some vaseline up your bum will help!

The thought of it is always worse than the actual deed. Drink plenty of water so stools are soft or try the aloe vera stuff as PP said, relax and go for it. I had second degree tear and loads of stitches and it really wasn't as bad as I though it was going to be.

I gave birth tuesday morning and it took me a couple days as well, even though they were giving me stool softeners - I basically waited until I had no choice haha... I have stitches as well and it wasn't painful at all - the thought was definitely worse.

I had a 2nd degree tear but once i finally went (about 4/5 days after ) it didn't hurt too bad. Stung for 10/15 minutes after but once that calmed down, it was fine and has been ever since.

Congratulations btw!
