Contraception - persona

Hi ladies, I posted this in post natal support but no replies so far, so thought I would try here where there are more people. Has anyone used persona for contraception and could share your experiences? Am thinking of trying it as I hate being on the pill and don't want to use it between pregnancy and OH hates condoms which leaves us a bit stuck! The unit is expensive, about £60 to buy and then you have to buy the sticks as well. I was always regular before so we just used the timing method until we wanted to TTC. I should also add that we do want another baby, just not quite yet!

Im the same as Lozenge..i dont know if im all that keen on injections/implants etc for me and OH doesnt really want to use condoms so this is also something i would be interested in..im guessing theres a higher failure rate for natural methods though which is whats putting me off and the HV just seems to want to pump you full of drugs to prevent another haha..

I used it for about 8 months before we started ttc and I will use it again once I've stopped breastfeeding. I was pleased with it because no other contraception really suits me, but I think you should only use it if having another baby would not be a complete disaster! I don't know the statistics but I imagine it's easier to get pregnant on it than when on the pill/coil etc.

Well I have done some research and it seems that you have to wait until you have had 2 natural cycles before you can start using it and you should not use it whilst BF. If used correctly it is 94% reliable which will do for me. However it does leave me a bit stuck in the mean time as I plan to BF for at least another 4 months and not sure OH can wait that long! My GP basically told me not to worry about contraception whilst breast feeding but I know it is still possible to get pg so we either take our chances or use the pill or condoms in the short term. I like the idea of persona though and will use it as soon as I can. They have a very informative website if you google it.

Not heard of this until now, it seems a little long winded to me, cant kind of go when the mood strikes if you know what I mean lol. I have a coil, was painless to fit and don't feel it at all :-) x

So does the coil use hormones? If so I think I might as well go on the pill. How long does it last and how does it work when you are TTC again, do you just have it removed and your periods return to normal?

This should be useful to read - http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100001706.html

it is hormonal but within one month of removal fertility is back to normal x

My friend used persona whilst breastfeeding and ended up pregnant - with twins! Baby was only a few months old so whilst they planned on more in the future it wasn't exactly ideal timing!
