epi stitches healing

its been 3 weeks since i gave birth and had my episiotomy, it got infected after a couple of days and i have had anti biotics and now its not feeling too bad, but the stitches are still there, i got my partner to check, the infection has cleared up but he said that it looks like all the stitches in both sides are still there, should they have dissolved by now? the last thing i want is to have to go to the docs and have yet another person rooting around down there! any advice or experience would be appreciated

Mine still were not dissolved at my 6 week check. I checked my self at about 10 weeks and they had gone.

I'm glad to hear the infection is cleared up

I had my stiches checked by a Midwife roughly 2-3 weeks after I had my Daughter and they had almost healed. Maybe the infection is causing them to take a little longer to heal? Or maybe they have healed but the actual stitches haven't dissolved yet?

My Midwife said that pelvic floor excercises (yes, those horrible things again!!) are supposed to really help heal stitches. They increase blood flow to the area which helps them heal quicker. Keeping the area VERY clean also helps, I used to bath about 5 times a day and use a feminine hygeine wipe every time I went to the toilet.
