PurpleDahlia is right in most cases, if you have an accident in the first 6 weeks after a section you are normally not insured.

My insurance company were very good, understood what I was asking.

They said that they had no actual restrictions from their side as regards to driving after a caesarean; but that it fell under the general description of being "fit and healthy to drive". Only a doctor could decide that. Therefore, I would not be insured to drive after any operation until I had had a discussion with my doctor and received his agreement that I was recovered sufficiently.

I wanted to drive really quickly but had problems with my section wound healing, so it ended up as six weeks.

Apparently there isnt a set time, each insurance company will have its own criteria. According to mine, I just had to be ok'd by a doctor (which I still havent been, although I've felt physically fine since about 4 weeks). They said I didn't have to ring to inform them that I was driving again though, they seemed not to really care! just in the case of a claim it would come up whether you had been ok'd as fit to drive.
