When can you start exercising again?

Im starting to worry alot about the weight i might have put on whilst being pregnant and am wondering how long after you have given birth you can start exercising to get that baby weight off. I know i will obviously be sore for a while. But am curious. Also would any one recommend exercises to do ?
I really miss doing dance so i was thinking of getting a dance keep fit dvd or something but dont know if that will help with toning the stomach and stuff.

It's recommended that you wait until you get the OK from your GP at your 6/8wk postnatal check. Basically your stomach muscles separate to accommodate your growing baby and post-birth, take a while to fuse back together so exercising before this has happened can hinder healing considerably.

You could try Davina McCalls postnatal workout DVD maybe? I've heard good things about it...

I started exercising after my 8 week check-up, but only gentle stuff as I had a c-section so had to let that heal.
Now Joe is 4 months old, I'm back at the gym, doing pilates and walking the dog like normal but still have a bit of weight to lose.
Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well x

Remember it can take up to 2 years for your body to get back to normal after childbirth. Start if slow and easy

I was quite surprised actually - my tummy's pretty much how it was before I got pregnant (I'm 6wks postnatal now), it needs a bit of toning up still but it's not as wobbly as I thought it would be

Hi- I had a C-section and started `exercise` with a physiotherapist the next day. Basically the exercise was to breath in breath out all the air, close your mouth and pull you ribs up and hold the position as long as you can. This basic `suction` exercise is done in different postures.

I'm still going to physio classes, and we do a lot of posture and coring exercises and also work the pelvic floor and the back. According to my physio, crunches are very bad to do at this time as your belly muscles need time to recuperate. Also she doesn't recommend running as it places too much pressure on your pelvic floor.

I'd really recommend that you start proper postnatal class from an instructor who knows what they are doing - it has helped me tremendously.

I was out with the dogs from day 4 (I didn't have a section and only a small tear). Started running 2 weeks ago at 4 weeks and have negotiated with OH to go to budypump tomorrow Just remember if you are BF getting out the house is a military operation so I think a DVD or Wii fit wouldbe fab sadly I have neither
