They didn't give me anything for nerves, but then I didn't ask for anything, I was nervous but not too bad, personally i wanted to be clear headed to meet my baby.

The c section itself was nowhere near as bad as i was expecting and i think i had an easier recovery than many women who had a difficult normal birth. I think a planned c section is a lot different to an emergency c section!

The worst bit was that when baby was born he was whisked straight over to the table for checks, I didn't even get to see him first. Apparently this is normal procedure but no one told me, so i was terrified there was something wrong! Also c section babies often don't cry straight away, it can take 30 seconds or so, so i didn't know that either and thought the baby was not breathing! If i'd known those things in advance it would have saved me a lot of stress!!

I'm sure the c section will be a completely different experience, it is so calm really when it is planned. I would just mention to the consultant how panicky you feel, it's only natural to feel nervous after having such a bad experience last time

Just echoing what polaris said;

That's exactly what happened with my c-section. I felt Elyse come out of me, I just felt lightened iykwim because you are aware in a weird way of what's happening but it's not painful? Anywho! She wasn't crying at first so I was scared but it's normal for c-section babies! She did well on her Apgars though- like polaris's LO, she was whisked away to be checked over by a pediatrician immediately... I saw her when she was weighed, cleaned up a bit and swaddled. Then she and my OH went to the recovery room across the hall and waited for me.

I wasn't a planned c but my nerves were pretty bad... not to freak you out but they did have wrist restraints on the operating table arm rests at mine. I had bad shakes though and I can understand why they might need them.. they didn't give me anything but honestly it comes down a lot to your birthing partner and the nurses. My OH and my nurses were fabulous and they really made my experience a good one!

i was terrified of doing mine, but it was so simple easy and a breeze! after a while of beeing in there towards the end i got a bit scared because they were pulling and tugging but it lasted all of one minute and then i heard my baby crying! its fast, you only feel pulling and then a lightness, and for me the catheter was really bothering me, i hated it! but trust me just relax and it will be fine! now im scared to have a natural birth. eek! heres what they did to me:
prepared me with drip in my hand, an enema, then a painless epidural, then they took me to the surgery areas, i was just laying there while the anesthisiologist (sp?) was fiddling around behind me, then she asked me if i could feel while she touched my belly, i said no, the doctors got ready,my DH came in they put up a sheet or something so i couldnt see,my arms and legs were strapped down.they were chatting away about various social events, after a bit i could feel myself moving as if someone is just pushing or tugging you,and some various noices, then i heard a waaaawaaa waaa! they cleaned my lo up a bit and showed me his little face poking through towels until i said ok i saw him so they could take him of to be checked, then my dh left and the docs stiched me up in 5 minutes and also left. i stayed in there with a nurse as she cleaned me up and put a bandage on, then they rolled me down the hallway and checked my BP for a while, then finally i got to go to my room where i put on my makeup while waiting to see my LO
its wonderful really!

I've had 3 c-sections and 2 of those were planned and i suffer quite badly with an anxiety disorder, but in all honesty i was fine with the 2 planned. The last one with Sienna was amazing, i told the theatre staff about my anxiety and they made me feel so calm and relaxed without using any kind of sedative which in turn allowed me to enjoy Sienna being born

I had my gorgeous little Anna by planned c-section last monday as she was breech.

I went into it very positive - all I was thinking of was I cant wait to meet my little one!

It was an amazing experience - I guess if I had had a vaginal delivery first I would have something to compare it too!!!

I had Anna at 10.43am. It was a weird feeling. The docs/surgeons etc done all they could to relax me - chatting away talking about prams etc as they were hooking me up to all the equipment/putting in drips etc (that took about 5 mins) and then suddenly I was told my baby would be here within 5 minutes - after about 3 mins of weird pulling feelings the room was filled with Anna screaming!!! And they had her right in daddys arms a minute later.

Its the recovery bit that can be difficult.
I had Anna at 10.43am and my legs were still numb til about 8pm. I got up and had a shower at 11.30pm- and that done the world of good - I was up and around the next day- stitches a bit sore on tummy but other than that fine.

I was out of the hospital within 48 hours of having Anna by c-section. If I had not got up that first night and got mobile I would have been in at least another day - like the other 2 women in my ward who had babies before me but I was discharged earlier.

Now 10 days on - no pain at all. I am up down, on my knees to change her etc and feel fantastic. I have always been a very active person, cant sit still etc, and I know I probably should be taking it easier!

Please dont worry - its going to be the best day of your life

Anything else I can help you with let me know.
Good luck

tbh you cant just really say oh i want a c section unless there is a reason you need one. i had such a traumatic birth with archie which ended in a 3rd degree episiotomy needless to say the whole expirience after was horrible and it never healed properly and was still in pain 6 months later and was due to have an op but being pregnant i couldnt so i requested to have 1 and got the ok. as i had such a horrible time with complications after.

if you have a genuine fear of child birth then u may also be able to but if you have a good reason enough to want 1 then some nice doctors will isten so its always worth asking xx

and maan im stil so nervous. do they put the catheter in after u have the spinal?...and an enema isnt that from the back passage
how embarrasing!. i also red that they push really hard on ur abdomen to relaese any large blood clots down below. oooh gosh man it sounds so un dignifying....at least wen ur in labour ur that out of it n couldnt give a shit lol. xxxx
