Constipation...

Ah right...

So for about 2 weeks now I have been constipated. Have managed to go to the loo but it has been so painful I had to bite on a towel to stop crying out. This in turn has caused massive bleeding and I have a small pile I even had to pout a thick maternity pad on the other day and there was a lot of red blood. Sorry for the TMI Using Anusol too.

Well i decided to get some Senakot and have now used it 3 times and all I have had is mild cramps and still massively constipated .
I had a BM today and now even sitting is agony. I am getting shooting pains up my bum and my back and tummy ache.

Any help greatly appreciated, so sorry for the TMI detail . or is it a doctors trip?

if you are breastfeeding it constipates you really badly. i thought all was well when C was 2 and 1/2 months old and stopped taking my Senokot with softeners but i ended up going to the hospital with impacted bowels. its not worth it, keep taking the Senokot, Senokot-S if you can, and drink LOTS of water. eat lots of fibre filled food, or use a fibre supplement and eat as healthy as you can.

i know exactly what youre going through, i hope you feel better soon.

Ahhh babe, I had the same, I was crying so much OH wanted to take me to hospital. It's horrible.

OK, here's what I did - soz if it's graphic. Went to Dr, got some glycerin suppositories and lactulose. Went to chemist, got some EMLA cream and Anusol.

Put some Anusol on a glycerin suppository and stick it 'up there' (it doesn't hurt at all doing this). The suppository melts and kind of lubricates the poo and irritates your bowels to stimulate them into moving. You'll feel like you need to go quite quickly but resist the urge for a good 4 hours (wear a pad as the suppository leaks a bit and is oily), then dab a little of the EMLA around the outside where the piles are (it's a local anaesthetic so will numb all the little sore bits) give it 15 mins to work and then give pooing a go...

I was honestly so scared as it was so painful but after I did this, it still hurt but nowhere near as much and I was able to go! Then take lactulose for a few days to get things moving again.

Good luck!!

(p.s. If you don't want to go Dr and can wait a couple of days, PM me your address and I'll send you some suppositories as I only needed to use one so have a box full. The lactulose/EMLA etc you can buy from chemist without prescription)

Just a quick tip, senekot takes a while to work (maybe 2 days or more of taking it), so dont give up taking it. I got really bloated so quit lactulose works, but that needs 3 days to work, and can make you rather gassy afterwards....

Thankyou! I was concerned because on the box it says to contact GPif not working after 3 days. Will keep trying with it for now!

I used glycerin suppositories. Orange juice in the morning will also work like magic, or u can also desolve on spoon of apricot jam in glass of warm water & drink it 1st thing in the morning.
