hormonal contraception can for some people be the worst when it comes to weight/mood swings/skin probs...I struggled for years being a chubby spotty downtrodden idiot on microgynon pills until I realise there were things I could change!!

I want to go back on Cilest pills for a while before TTC number 2 but HUbby doesnt want me on hormonal contraceptives...we're planning on number 2 quite soon after theis little monster.

Have a good log talk with your HV/GP/Family Planning clinic before getting any implant/pill etc go through everything in your history on contraception and your hopes for the future. They'll be able to give you lots (or at least should be able to) about the pro's and con's.

I've had froends o the implant who struggles with everythi gohter kind of hormonal contraception but they swear by the implant for being so much less fuss!

I started on the pill Loestrin 20 about 2months after giving birth these were not suitable for me anymore kept bleeding while I was on them, went back to the doctors and she said the pill I had been given was a really low dosage and had I been using other types of contrseption which I hadn't and she gave me a higher dose loestrin 30 but do a pregancy test b4 starting them (Not good) been on these for a week had cramps on and off!! So I guess my body has changed so muuch just have to c wot happens. Don't want to be on these for ages cos was horrible when stopped them last time to try and get pregnant. But got to talk my oh round to have another baby, the birth was quite traumatic and he is worried it will happen again.

I haven't heard many good things about the implant as I was also thinking about getting this. I've just heard it can be pretty mood altering, also a lot of weight gain and bleeding and then the docs giving you meds to stop the bleeding and I thought it just seemed like a lot of hassle and it's not like you can just stop taking it! But I thought that I would forget to take the pill with LO keeping me busy so I got the injection and its been pretty good so far! I know itlasts for 3 months but I figured if it didn't suit me I will just have to rethink it then x

i have the implant, love it! took about 6 weeks to settle down, i had bleeding theb but certainly not heavy at all but since then no weight gain, mood swings or periods. some ppl have bad reactions but i'd say it's worth a try.

If you're thinking of getting the implant, you should be aware that it can cause some serious mood swings in the early days, and for some people long term. I don't think they make it clear enough how bad they can be IF you get them.

If it's something you'd like to try, I suggest you discuss trying Cerazette first. It is a mini-pill, but has the same content as the implant, so you can see how you react without commiting to the implant - it'd be annoying to have it taken straight back out again!

If you decide to try either of these, make you you explain it all to your nearest and dearest - if you do get the side effects you'll be in for a bumpy ride for a while!

I had it years ago and it didn't suit me at all. I wish it had as it is so convenient not to have to remember to take a pill. However, I had totally erratic bleeding - would bleed for 3 weeks then stop for a few days then start again for maybe a week and so it went on.

However, my best friend had it and she loved it. It really suited her.
