Prolapse

I developed a mild prolapse about 3 months pp and have been doing my pelvic floor exercises ever since, some days more religiously than others but I do do them. It doesn't seem to be getting any better though.

Has anyone else experienced a prolapse going on for this long and what did you do to fix it? I haven't gone back to the doc just because as far as I'm aware there's nothing they can do except surgery which is a drastic step and something which wouldn't be done until I was finished having children anyway.

And a bit more embarrassing but has anyone had with a prolapse? I feel really uncomfortable about it so sort of haven't gone there yet...

I don't have any help on this one, but you have my sympathy! I have been told by the doctor that I will probably need an op (bladder suspension) to fix my stress incontinence and although I don't want to live with it, I do really want to look at every alternativ before decide to do that...and I also definitely want to have more children so it's the same situation.
My advice is to keep doing the Kegels very consentiously and maybe make another appointment to see the doctor - maybe there can be another alternative, it's worth to try!

Thanks Danuta I'm lucky in that I don't have any incontinence along with it, it just feels horrible, like everything's going to fall out if I'm not careful!

Glad u don't have the incontinence problem at least, since often the two things seems to go together! I can imagine it must be really uncomfotable, and so is incontinence so I really pity the poor people who have both

My LO is currently sitting on the floor blowing raspberries at me, don't think she cares about my prolapse issues!

Nope, I don't think our LOs are too bothered! I've been feeling sick all day from my new incontinence meds and Dajana is just bothered that she wants to be fed NOW! Luckily Mummy's friend has taken Dajana for a little walk now so she will get some amusement today at least

What kind of prolapse do you have? I have a bladder prolapse (since LO was 3 months, he's 14 months now) I got my GP to refer me to a womens health physio and she's given me specific exercises to do, I get a check up monthly and a different set of exercises depending on how I've progressed. Not had any issues sex wise but then everyone is different - if I went for a run then I would be really achey the next day. Definitely try and get a physio referral - surgery is the last option but it depends on the severity of the prolapse and if you go on to have more babies after the surgery they will have to be born via c-section.

Thanks ladies. All I was told was that I had a mild vaginal prolapse but I was always under the impression that a vaginal prolapse is caused by the internal organ being out of place so I don't know which mine would be? Did you ladies just have internal exams?

Maybe I'll go back to the GP to get the referral then. I thought I'd just be told to do more pelvic floor exercises but if there's different types to try then it'd be worth it. I just hate people poking around down there!

prolapse is quite common

I experienced a bladder prolapse after the birth of my first child six years ago. The feelings of "what the heck is this" were there as well as the overall feeling of weakness - like the bottom might fall out. I am a physical therapist so I was able to enter the women's health world of exercise to improve my symptoms and have now had 2 more children - my youngest is 2. I always worried that more children would make my prolapse worse and the doc didn't have a clear answer for me on that. In my case it didn't, and I am back to competing in triathalons without significant symptoms. Knowing how to perform a Kegel correctly - as a 2 step process is important, learning about proper posture to give better support to your pelvic floor, and learning the coordinating muscles that need to be strengthened to assist a weak pelvic floor are 3 very important pieces of the puzzle. There are some great forums on the internet, and I would encourage you to search through several as there are different opinions on treatment. Best of luck.
