First Period After Giving Birth

Hey girls.
My post birth bleeding stopped about a week ago (Evie is 6 weeks old today) and today I started my first period since my BFP last Feb. Thing is, it's really heavy. And I mean REALLY heavy. The bleeding is as heavy as the first day after giving birth and it's bright red. I'm having to change towels every 45 mins or so, it feels so bloody uncomfortable and the cramps are pretty bad too. Is it normal for the first period to be so heavy? Or could there be something else going on? I havent had my 6 week check up yet, it's on Thursday.

I was warned by my mw that my first period would be extra heavy, but I was also told that I shouldn't be having to change pads more than once an hour?? I would probably give them a call to check

My 1st period was HEAVY its always been heavy but never this bad.. i was also told that the 1st period could be heavy.. It was so bad at almost every pad change i had to change my knick knacks too

the heavyness only lasted 3 days and its back to normal now!

Mine was like that to but if you want toput your mind at rest no harm calling nhs direct or something! I remember waking up when it started and it was leaking down my legs was like a blood bath and the pains were like when i was in early labour! x

Hey girls thanks for your replies

Well my period lasted for the usual 5 days and I think it was on day 3 it started to lighten up and by day 5 I was just spotting

I went for my postnatal check up and the doctor said it's quite common to have a heavy first period but to keep an eye on how long I was bleeding for. Thankfully, it was only a few days
