Polycystic Ovaries???

Hello! I was diagnosed last year with PCOS through a laparoscopy. I was drilled and fortunately got caught with my son 4 months later. I had had numerous problems with periods and things and was contraception free for 3 years before i finally got diagnosed. Since my sons birth (4 months ago) i am experiencing the same problems as before and was hoping somebody could tell me if the cysts are liable to return?
It would be a great help as i asked several medical professionals whilst iwas pregnant and nobody would give me an answer.
If anybody is in the same boat i would be grateful for some advice. Sorry for the long post!!
Thankyou
Zoe x x

Hi - I have PCOS, and when I asked my consultant (he's a specialist in this area) whether it would return after birth of DD, he said it could go, could come back. He seemed to think probable it could well return...I won't know until I stop BFing.

I know how you feel, PCOS is not fun! Our consultant was great, DD arrived with clomid and metformin to get cycles back.

Thanks for that, i'm quite new to the condition, hadn't got any symptoms like excess hair or weight gain, just got diagnosed through investigative surgery. Was quite lucky to have my little boy without any sort of aids. Only now i'm not sure how serious the condition is likely to get or if i'll be able to conceive any more?!!!! I'm confused!!!!

I have it too but have alot of smptoms... and i find that no one can really tell me what to expect. I have most of the symptoms that go along with PCOS and was told when i was diagnosed that I would probably have to have fertility treatment if i wanted a family. I accidently got pg not using contraception one time and sadly that ended in a m/c. We then tried to get pg and got pg in the first cycle. We are planning on TTC #2 in Feb and I have no idea what to expect.

I had no physical symptoms, either - my period just went AWOL and I felt quite tired. We were referred to a consultant when we wanted cycles back on track to conceive - and then we switched and got this great consultant.

Basically, from what I gather (and my 1,000,000 questions) women just react in different ways to it - nothing we do can make it worse/better, but I think it's unlikely to get much worse. Things can improve it like a low GI diet, but I think that's mostly for people looking to stabilise their blood sugar and lose weight. I had no issue with insulin, so that wasn't necessary for me...but I tried it, as it gave me more energy.

You will be able to conceive again - consultant said to us 'well, see you again in about 1.5 yrs?' jokingly. Hopefully without any assistance. As for me, I am hoping carrying DD has improved it (it certainly can do for some women) but if not, I'll take metformin, clomid and cyclogest again (the latter is progesterone)

I was kept on metformin and cyclogest until I was 14 weeks to lower risk of m/c.

I was all over the shop with my cycles and very despondent about the whole thing. Metformin didn't bring my cycles back, but combined with clomid - it did. I had three cycles of clomid, a one month break...and on that month got pregnant (enough clomid still in body to stimulate period)

We were overjoyed.

There are plenty of options out there to deal with symptoms and fertility.

If anyone wants to PM me with any questions, do feel free...as I have read SO much and asked SO much about this!! We were lucky to see one of the top people in the country about it, so we picked brains like you wouldn't believe!

I have the same problem too.

I fell pregnant with my little girl after 2 years of no periods. I didnt know at the time I had PCOS, I just thought i was a late developer (even at 19) and that my body was taking its time adjusting to coming off the pill. I fell pregnant naturally with her but sadly lost her at 25 weeks pregnant.
After her birth, I had 3 regular (33 days) cycles for the 1st time in my life and then they went to peices again I know you had yours drilled and I havnt had anything done to mine, but I thought id be "cured" after giving birth and they wouldnt give me hassle again but they did. I managed to fall pregnant naturally again and a string of messed up periods over the year.

But like you, I too have no symptoms, well except absent periods. I am just say in the ideal category of the BMI chart (bmi of 19) and I do have excess hair or anything like that.

It will be possible for you to get preg again hun, it may just take a little longer than others. x x x

I have PCOS and developed it after the birth of my first son so Im sure the symptoms will return but I am amazed that I have lost 23 lbs of baby weight already with only 10 to go as its usually really hard for me to lose weight...it may be the BFing though...it took me over 3 yrs to concieve my 2nd son and my first was not planned...I dread the return of the cysts but I figure they will return...Im looking into BC to help with it but not sure about what to try because I havent even had to think about BC for 4+ yrs...any suggestions?

Thank you so much for the advice, like i say i am quite new to the condition. I read a little about it and things like clomid as i hadn't conceived with 3 years of no contraception. I really hope it doesn't come to that (can't believe i'm considering another!!! Had a very traumatic birth!)
TennisGal, you seem to be in the know so i may come to you with questions in the future! Can't seem to think of anything now!Congrats on your LO though, i know how frustrating it is to be trying so much and getting nowhere.
Sugar Kisses, sorry to hear about your m/c, really hope everything goes well for you, like you i just have extremely random and very painful periods. I suppose i'll just have to see how it goes! Worst comes to worst i'll just go back in for another op! I know that works!!!
I may be having a blond moment but whats BC???hehehe!!

I have PCOS. Diagnosed aged 21. Always had irregular periods and fell pregnant naturally after having had Clomid previously and 3 MCs. I have yet to have a period after having James. I have been told that pregnancy can either improve PCOS or make it worse. I dont think there is any way of telling which until your periods tell you or you TTC again.
