Contraceptive injection

Anybody have this on a regular basis and if so what side effects did you have?

I have just had it and have noticed my boobies are a bit swollen and my belly is bloated. As for increase in appetite I was told about, I have not noticed that yet probably because I eat alot anyway hence why I can't shift my baby weight.

Would be interested to know how you got on with this...thanks in advance...

Are you having the Depo Provera shots (12 weekly ones)?

I had depo for over 10 years as I got pregnant taking the pill. Unfortunately I had just about all the side effects except depression! I didn't notice an increase in appetite but it did become harder and harder to maintain or loose any weight while having the injections.

After 2 years I started occasionally getting very sore spots on my back and legs which got worse and worse over time but I finally decided that the side-effects outweighed the benefits when my hair started to get really thin - again this was a gradually worsening thing, and I realised that I had become very moody and had just about lost all interest in sex!

The injections are great for not having to remember your contraception and I found not having periods a welcome side effect but keep an eye on your symptoms and maybe take a few months break from it every so often. I ended up having serious difficulties conceiving my son and only realised how much the depo had changed my moods and skin/ hair once I stopped having them. If you're planning to get pregnant make sure you leave plenty of time to detox and get your cycles back - it took over 18 months for me and I've spoken to severl other people who have taken from 8 months to 3 years to get back to normal, even if they've only had a few of the injections.

I was on depo for two shots and it took two years to get over it. I was depressed, fat and bled every day I was on it. Everyone thought I looked like crap. The only good thing was that my hair was less greasy. It was in general very similar to being pregnant. I then had hormonally induced cystitis for two years. I bitterly regret taking it and feel I was forced into it my a gynae.

Thanks for this post. Am on Depro. Am feeling a bit crappy on it and I do feel pregnant, am bloated, my boobs are swollen, I now have spots on my chin whereby my skin was clear before and just feel tired all the time. Oh and I feel moody alot especially towards my OH.
Am going to give it 6 months and if my symptons don't improve I will come off it.

Thanks again for your replies.

I was on depo for 5years, and boy it was great at first but then it just took over my body.

I had all the pregnancy symptons whilst on this, my boobs went from a Bcup to DD Which was ok when they where slightly bigger but when they got HUGE I got back ache constantly. I put on loads of weight, not to mention the break out of spots all the time and Im not talking small ones either.

And I also was producing breastmilk, so I was advised to stop taking it by my Doc.

It was good to begin with and I am useless at remembering the pill(kinda drilled in now tho) plus not having a period

The only major issue I have and the main regret is not coming off it sooner, me & OH had started trying for a baby when I came off, nothing was happening. We even had all the tests and I was waiting to have a procedure to be done but luckly I fell pregnant, It took us over 5years to get our beautiful children and it is possible it was down to that so wish I had come off sooner!!
