Post Natal Care NHS

My wife had a very traumatic birth of our second child. My wife has previously had a C section. Everything was being monitored because she was high risk due to the prevous c section. Everything fine until the babys heart rate dropped, and all of a sudden the baby had to be delievered. They used forceps to pull the baby out, and my wife had to be rushed into theatre where she had major operation on her uterus and bladder. She and the baby where very fortunate to survive

She stayed in Intensive care for 2 days before being moved and again after another 3 days she was moved into the wards in maternity wing. The care in the maternity wing was plain awful. Having experienced very good care in the ICU.

She buzzed and would get no reponse for over an hour during the nights, when she was in real pain due to her catheter being blocked, or she was just told that a doctor would see her soon and there would be no doctor. This happened for 2 nights, and she had to bear extreme pain due to the operation.

I was wondering if anyone else has experience such poor postnatal care

Sorry to hear u and your wife have had a really tough time of it, u really should write a letter of complaint. The after care in my hospital was appalling! Think it was down to staff shortages, i never got any of the support and care i'd heard about.

Sorry to hear your wife had such a terrible experience. I would definately write a letter of complaint to your health authority.

I personally cannot fault the staff at Ipswich hospital. I was in for 2 weeks and they were nothing less than fantastic

So sorry you had to experience this at time that should be happy. Yes, my post-natal care was awful. The ward was packed and short-staffed. It felt like a prison. My baby wasn't feeding and had low temps. We were told it was normal. My baby sadly stopped breathing suddenly on the ward and passed away in ICU. She had an infection. ICU did all they could and were very good but it was too late. I am so so glad your baby is ok.

Keep an eye out on your wife's recovery hen she gets home ie doesn't develop infection. Also, find out how many visits she will get from a nurse.

sorry you both had a bad time!

I had quite a bad time this time round. I had a 2nd degree tear and lost ALOT of blood. my parnter was kicked out of the labour room as soon as gave birth and had to go home. So i was taken up to ward on my own with baby, when i got there [an hour after birth] i fell straight asleep on the bed the midwife shouted at me "to get up and get showered" at 3am!. So i had to go and shower i went loo and lost a massive blood clot the size of two fists, i rang the bell and told the same midwife and she said "what you mean something fell out?! its a blood clot is normal!" she also told me off for not having a pad on when i came to the ward, i was bleeding everywhere and the midwife who delivered dex didnt give me one.
