More fertile after birth! How?

Anyone have any info on this that has come from MW, HV or GP rather than me looking at Google and finding various answers!

Just wondering how your more fertile after a birth. Surely its as simple as you ovulate and chances are just as they would be when you conceived in first place?!

There is evidence to suggest that you can be more fertile for about 3 months after birth, but I have no idea why. Although I would put it down to hormones. x

You hormone levels decrease & return to normal after around 6 weeks though don't they!

I know I tested around week 8 and it was negative - hormone free

MSN messages aren't getting through!

Yep! I have read that the fertility period is mainly for no longer than 3 months and it is due to hormones and your uterus being more 'favourable' towards a pregnancy! x

But of course this does not mean you are NOT fertile.......just use an OPK test for proof of this

Although NO OPKs have ever worked for me!

It's to do with your levels of progesterone.
The sudden dip causes ovulation but the sustained "higher than normal" levels mean that your luteal phase is longer.
Progesterone is what holds off menstrual bleeding meaning the uterine lining is richer.
