How long after birth can PND kick in

Sounds strange I know as Jack is 7 months and we have alot going on in our lives at the moment, but I'm becoming increasing tearful, my appitiate has gone and I can't sleep. I just feel like I can't win no matter what I do. I suspect this all stems from going back to work but am a little worried about PND

they say within the first year - but any kind of depression should be seen to. Dont feel like you need to look for an excuse - if you feel down, do get some help!

Hi Claire-Lou,
I had PND after my daughter was born, it didn't manifest itself until she was about 4 months old, and I just wanted to cry all the time and sleep!!!
It went on for a couple of weeks and after a particular bad weekend I contacted my health visitor first thing on a monday morning, she was at my door by 10am!!
She sat and chatted with me for ages and then made an appointment for me that day to see my gp who diagnosed PND. I tried a couple of different anti depressants but for me they didn't seem to make much difference.
I would get in touch with your health visitor and see if she can come and vist, failing that make an appointment with your gp they have a questionaire that gives a good indication if you are indeed suffering from some form of depression. Good luck and don't worry.

I had terrible 'Baby Blues' a few days after my son was born, and they got so bad that the doctor immediately put me on anti-depressants for PND. He didn't bother waiting the few weeks to see if it would pass. I've read many times that PND can strike any time in the first year. It's so common, and nothing to be ashamed of. If you're feeling like crap, you should definitely talk to your doctor!
