Depends.. Mirena is supposed to improve your period (lighter & shorter, less cramps).. and the copper coil IUD can intensify the cramps and make bleeding heavier.

My Mirena went in early July.. my first couple periods were a little long, but a lot lighter, and are starting to get better now. I didn't have bleeding for 5 weeks or straight after or anything like that though

I had the Mirena Coil back in March, and I had bleeding constantly for about 2 months afterwards, like a period. Eventually it settled, and now I have very light bleeding for a few days and no cramping around the time of my period.
I was so close to having it removed but hang in there it does get better. Mention it at your 6week check if you are worried though hun x

Oh man I'm getting this fitted in a few weeks My GP told me it would make my period lighter or even disappear! I'm not expecting them to get heavier or longer.

Hope you start to feel better soon

My gyno told me my period probably wouldn't go away totally for at least 6 months, up to a year.. and if it stuck around for a year it would probably stay. But it is A LOT BETTER, I have no cramps and light bleeds that are getting shorter.
