The nurse who came to visit after we got home mentionned and ointement that could be applied locally to stitches. It's called EMLA. Here in Canada, you must ask the pharmacist but it does not require a prescription. I bought it but didn't need it. The nurse told me it helps lots when you begin to heal and the stitches kind of itch and poke. Hope it helps! Jessica
