Having a section

Hi

I am having a planned C section next Wednesday. Is there anything you recommend I take into the Hospital or anything I should get when back at home to make life a little easier.

Thanks

Some people told me to take high pants but personally I found really low bikini pants more comfortable. I wore long nighties whilst in hospital and loose joggers afterwards.

I took arnica to help reduce swelling.

definatly some Kitchen towel to dry your wound when you have a shower-although you prob wont have one in hosp like I did.

Instead of using a towel to rub the wound. . .OWWWWWWW use the kitchen roll to pat the wound dry-it soaks up the moisture without hurting

You can get c-section belts that come with a cushion, heat pad and hard plastic bit and I found it quite helpful especially the plastic bit to protect against knocks and I guess it would protect against baby's feet kicking you as well.

My Mum went and got me some Playtex maxi pants, they are huuuge but they were fab as they were nice and supportive and a very long way above the wound.

When Findlay was in hospital they had special cushions that were sort of half moon shaped that fitted round your middle for you to sit baby on to cuddle them/give them their bottle which were good.

Donna's kitchen towel suggestion is a very good point, I used a sterile pad in the hospital to pat it with after my OH started to dry it with a towel (I couldn't bend down properly to do it myself) at which point I nearly hit him

Most importantly make sure you are well rested before you go in as I'm sure you'll recover much quicker if you are full of beans.

The best advice from me would be big pants ! and if/when you cough/poo!!! hold a pillow on your tummy else it will hurt !!!! also take the pain med when offered as you dont want to get too unconforatble !!

All the best

As a few others have said....a C-section belt, it was fab for protecting my scar from little feet kicking me. I didn't have/want a changing table, but the day after I got out of hospital DH went to buy one, as getting on the floor was a no-no! Also as others have said again...take the pain meds whether you feel you need them or not, they stop any breakthrough twinges! Also, relax. When I had Joe (planned section) I had spent months getting all worked up about it, and thinking WAY too much. By the time I got into theatre I was in such a state. I would've enjoyed the birth, and the first day of my son's life, a bit more if I'd just chilled and gone with it. It really wasn't all that bad. We had Meatloaf playing in theatre and there were all sorts of conversation/banter going on!

Good luck x
