How long to recover mentally??

I was wondering how long it took you to get over the trauma of childbirth???
I had a difficult birth as I had ventouse and a big-ass episiostomy... My stitches are not healing that fast, they're still hurting bad.
But my mind isn't over it, I have nightmares about that day... It hants me, and I still cry over it..
Did anyone went through this?? When did the trauma stopped??
Thanx for answering me. xx

I'm the same, keep having flashbacks and nightmares about the last week leading up to it particularly. I'm going to try and speak to my gp about it on Monday as I haven't told anyone about it although I don't want to have to talk through everything that happened as at the moment I don't think I can.

it took me a while, i had a 3rd degree tear and that really effected me. it wasnt overlly painful it was the fact i had to be taken to surgery to be stitched up. i had a water birth with only gas and air i felt so proud of myself then i had to be taken to surgery and given a spinal and that just made me so upset to know i had done the labour bit on gas and air delivered the placenta without anything and then had to go for an epidural.

i still am having bit of difficulty going for a no2 and am having to take lactulose on a daily basis due to having stitches.
what pain relief are you taking for your stitches? i used diclofenix (sp?) they really helped had to get them prescribed from the gp though.

I had quite a very traumatic birth with my son back in 2004 and although I was never diagnosed with postnatal depression I knew that I had it, I was just to ashamed, embarressed to admit and ask for help, I felt my husband would'nt understand. Anyway as time went on I did start to feel better, I always thought about the "what ifs" that could off happened during the birth but luckily 4 years down the line my son is a healthy 4 year old, unfortunatley I did leave me quite traumatised as I had my beautiful daughter in march,I had some counselling with a lady who specialises in traumatic births I decided to have my daughter by elective cesarean as I personally felt I could,nt go through a vaginal birth again and it was fantastic I have to say.

Hi hun, I found it took a few weeks before I stopped feeling so sore, but I had problems with my stitches and needed antibiotics so it prob took a little bit longer than usual. Mentally tho, I don't think I have totally recovered. I had a similar situation to you, ventouse, episiotomy, then a PPH I tried really hard to blank it out but I started taking it out on my OH, it took me ages to finally talk to my HV about it, I think Joseph was nearly 5 months when I did, then I was diagnosed with PND. It's definitely worth talking to your HV or GP about it. It sounds like you had a really tough time xxx

I did talked to my midwife and HV about it and they both said I don't have PND, just a hard time lol!!! SO I guess it's not too bad!
