I had this, a couple of days after the birth of DS, thankfully I was still in hospital at the time, it was so big it literally felt like pushing his head out again, and I was stuck in the toilet screaming in agony! One of the midwives came in and took it away. It was all fine, and I had a few smaller ones in the next 2 days then stopped bleeding all together.
I would show it to your midwife yes, as she'll then be able to put your mind at rest properly.

Def. have the midwife check it out! You can never be too safe
Hope you start feeling better soon and that it lightens for you.

When I had my first baby the placenta came out literally looking like chopped liver!! God knows why (and I wasnt as informed back in the day as I am now) but they seemed to think it all came out. No real suprise to me now that while back home I woke one morning in extreme agony (fever, the lot) passing clots and quite delirious. Managed to slither down the stairs, call the doc and open the door (literally couldnt stand) and he came out to find me slumped and sweaty in the hallway! Anyway he reckoned a bit was still there and poisoning my system.
I didnt have any surgery, but he DID give me a course of antibiotics, pain killers and some HOOGE tablets he said worked like some kind of acid in the womb to dissolve anything that was left. Felt hell of a lot better in just a day or too.
