I'm Currently Feeling: | TTC after MC Hi!
I'm a proud mom of a 10mo boy. Last month (may 21st) I had a BFP. I was so happy. I only had my AF for two months because I was breastfeeding.
Unfortunatly after a couple of days I started spotting. Went to the hospital and after a couple of blood tests they confirmed the MC (I was only 5 weeks pregnant)
They told me to do a pregnancy test after 2 weeks and call with the results. I did it, it was negative as expected and for them that was it.
I'm going to the GP on Tuesday for a check up and I have a couple of questions:
1) shouldn't they do a scan to confirm that everything is ok and nothing remains on the uterus?
2) any of you TTC right after the bleeding stopped? I'm dying to get pregnant again and I don't want to wait much, though my DH thinks different (he got scared and is afraid and would rather wait a couple of months). When did you get your AF back?
Thank you! | | | | Status: Offline

Thank you! | Hey Lovely
Sorry to hear about your recent m/c. I m/c in January at 9 weeks. I had an internal scan which confirmed I had a completed m/c. I then had to have a blood test and do another pregnancy test about a week or so later.
As your test turned up negative, I guess they were happy that your m/c had happened. But I would have thought they would of scanned you to make sure that there was nothing left of your pregnancy.
I was told by the midwife to wait three months before TTC. We have only just started about 2 or 3 cycles ago. If you are both mentally and physically up to TTC, go for it.

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hi...sorry to hear of your mc
I thought that most areas would carry out a scan to check that you have'nt anything retained to prevent complications, especially if you mc naturally. My GP recently told me that you can have a negative PT and still have retained products (I have had a lot of bleeding and spotting since mc in May so GP concerned that I might have something still retained so trying to get me re-scanned and refer back to gynae). I'm amazed at how different all our medical experiences and advice is... I know we are all unique but we all seem to get different types of healthcare!
I had a missed mc last year (7 weeks) and went in for a ERPC but they didn't scan me afterwards, I assumed because it was a surgerical procedure. This year, however, I had a medical management of mc (8+2 weeks) and was scanned 3 weeks later as a precaution.
Take care | | | | Status: Offline

| Gosh it's so different for us all. I had medical management of a missed miscarriage (discovered at 12-13 weeks, but probably happened at 10) and I didn't have a scan afterwards as the nurses were happy everything had come away.
Then continued to bleed for 6 weeks, but it was getting much lighter and had been told can last 6weeks. Then came on heavy (thought it was my period) and passed tissue. Specialist nurse told me it wouldnt be products as preg test neg. But scan showed retained products and had to have d+c.
We didn't start TTC again for a couple of months after that as it was quite difficult to convince me there were no more retained products after that experience!!!
I think when you start TTC is quite personal and you just have to do whats right for you. I personally like the idea of at least one proper period first...just as a kind of 'clean slate' type thing. But I am sure my experience has made me think like that!
Goodluck for whenever u start trying | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | They rarely scan after an ERPC because it is surgical but if you have a natural complete m/c they may do. Not always, every where is different isn't it? If you live in 1 area they may but another area they wouldn't.
As regards TTC again afterwards then they say you only really need to wait for 1 cycle to ensure that any products left have been cleared out as it out as it were. Most likely if there is anything left then your first af should remove it. So feel free to start trying again after that and consider taking some vitamins to boost your body back up again.
Hope that helps hun and there is a thread at the top called something about myths of miscarriage and there is loads of info in there for you xxx | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | thank you all for your quick answers. I was "treated" at St. Thomas in London. They wouldn't offer a scan but I would really like one just to be sure everything is clean. I think I'll talk to my GP on Tuesday and ask her to make a referral letter for a scan. I'll let you know. Thanks again! | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hiya, and sorry for you loss, pet!
Just wanted to add to the second question of when anyone started to ttc again. As i had a d&c i didnt have the re-scanning issue that you have. But i was told at the hospital by the midwife that i could start again right away, which we did. As soon as the bleeding stopped we got back to ttc.
All the best and big HUGS,

I'm Currently Feeling: | I am so sorry for your loss hun I have had my 1st AF since my complete m/c end of May. It feels like I will OV any day now so have been TTC as, my OH wanted to wait until I had had an AF. I had blood test, ultrasound and an internal scan which all confirmed there was nothing left. I would ask to be scanned so you know for sure there isn't anything left behind | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | So sorry to hear your news.
I'm surprised they don't want to do a scan to check you have passed everything.
This is what happend with me, i had one scan to confirm was miscarrying and then a second a week later to check all was ok.
As for your question about TTC again. I was told to wait for first AF which was quite convenient for me as i was about to go on holiday around first AF and didn't want to get pregnant again before hand so i could go to the spa and drink cocktails (thought i deserved a treat!!). However i was told that if i was to get pregnant before first AF it didn't mean the pregnancy would fail. I think it just makes it easier for dating if they know when you AF was. With scans these days, it isn't as important to have a definate date to work to.
Sorry for your MC and good luck TTC when the time is right.

I'm Currently Feeling: | Thanks owo. At the hospital they told me it was to early for a scan a wouldn't see anything (I wasn't even 5 weeks pregnant when I MC).
I just would like for AF to come so everything can go back to normal and start TTC.
This pregnancy was a total surprise. I wanted to start TTC by the end of the year but now, after the MC I really want to get pregnant again ASAP. I just love being a mum.
Good luck TTC for you as well! | | | | Status: Offline
