A Good Read

Hey girls. I was sitting around on Sat. feeling sorry for myself... Which I hate doing, it's just not my style. I was sitting there thinking, "why us? and what can I do to be more proactive in finding a solution?" I went to the local bookstore to get the boys a new book and ended up finding a good book about miscariages. It's called, Preventing Miscarriage the Good News by Jonathan Scher, M.D. and Carol Dix. It's very medicaly informative and has other womens stories and how they've found success.
Anyway, I've found it very helpful and just wanted to share.

Hiya
I am very sceptical about this kind of thing but think I would also like to find out more about it as i was led to believe that there is nothing you can do to prevent a miscarriage.

Is it more about reducing the risks?

I really hope it isn't putting silly ideas into peoples heads that have suffered the loss of a baby & making them think there could have been something they could've done to stop this awful experience from happening to them.

xx

I feel the same way I don't know if after my miscarriage I would want to read something that told me I did something wrong. I think it may put a lot of what if 's into peoples head. Although if there was something that could be done I would want to do it for next time.

No, no, no, no.... Its not like that. It doesn't tell you that you've done the wrong thing, or how to magicly stop a mc that is not preventable. The book goes over all the known to cause miscarriages. Explains scientificly what happens, why, symptoms...ect. Then explains some of the tests and actions, conversations and treatments that you should go over with your OB to try and 'prevent' mc the next time. Not all things are preventable, obviously, but it is very informative. It's not filling my head with lots of fairy tales... But I will say that I understand a lot more now and I know what questions I need to bring to my doc on my follow up.
Its just that having done this twice now, I am not prepaired to get pg again blindly. Emotionaly it's just too exhausting. Nor am I willing to just sit and listen to the standard reply, "Oh well, these things happen, try again." Lets just be honest, at 30, DH at 34, and having had 2 already, our odds are not getting any better. This time, I'm going to be as pushy as humanly possible, to make sure we've got the best possible chance the next time around. That's all.

I got that superp123.

This was our first m/c and so i don't tink we should go into it to much and we are just putting it down to "just one of those things" i think t's a great idea if you have had 2 or more though as iy can never do any harm to know more about your body and the way it works

It is good that this book has brought you comfort and helped you make some sense of it all.
I also think that if a miscarriage is going to happen then it will happen no matter what you do. However there is some evidence that suggests things like giving up caffeine reduces your chances of miscarriage, so this time i will be paying more attention to things like that. Although i'm not going to blame myself because i had a couple of cups of tea a day last time.
I really hope it's third time lucky for you.
Please don't be down about being 30, i am too in a couple of days and my DH is 32 and i definetely don't think we are too old yet.
Think positive, next time will be our turn to get our beautiful babies.
