ERPC experiences please!

I have to go for ERPC next Wednesday, can anyone who has had one post their experience (good or bad) please so that I know what to expect - thread to needle details please from start to end LOL I have a terrible phobia of hospitals and have never had an anaesthetic so no idea what to expect?

Thanks in advance

Hi Tracy

I had this last week & as far as I can say its a pretty standard procedure which only takes around half an hour to do (including recovery from General anasthetic)
You can choose to have a spinal if you prefer but I recommend having a general as you have already been through enough trauma without needing to be awake while this procedure is carried out.

You won't feel a thing & the doctors will explain everything to you fully before you go to sleep.

There is a slight risk of bleeding (This happened to me but the stats are something like 1 in 2000 cases) but this will also be explained to you fully before anything happens.

Try not to worry honey as you will be in great hands & although I am on antibiotics as a result of my blood loss I am otherwise fine physically.

I hope this hasn't scared you in any way cos it really isn't anything to be worried about. xx

Hi,

Its EPRC by the way ERPC is to do with your pancreas. I asked the difference last Thursday when I had mine. Apparently very few D & C's are done now. Basically EPRC uses suction rather that a scraper.Sounds great huh. This info directly before I went in helped me as it was the scraping I didn't fancy, in my head more likely to "over scrap".

I must say it was OK. I had general anaesthetic. Went to sleep woke up and just a little nausea and cramping though not bad. Had asked for anti-sickness med though.

They give you IV antibiotics and pain relief during op. Now 1 week since the proceedure OK but still bleeding though not really heavy.

You will be fine promise.

Hi thanks for your reply, I feel better knowing it is suction, was really panicking about scraping my insides - ugh!!!

It is ERPC see this link: http://www.privatehealth.co.uk/priva...aecology/erpc/

The other one comes up too if you google it though - most confusing LOL!

Hey!

Well my experience pretty much the same and i was so nervous about having it too as only had epidurals before with my two pregnanices...

I got a bit tearful just before cos it had suddenly dawned on me while I was there...

Anway they said I would be out for about 20 mins but like others I did bleed whilst there but was told that was normal - only made my blood pressure a bit low and had to stay in as op was at 5 and i didnt come round till 6 otherwise i would of come home...

I did have to have a drip for a while (which my OH turned up to go through me quicker cos the needle in my hand was p*ssing me off) which made me go to the loo every 15 mins for a few hours! But that again was only due to the excess bleeding...

I had very little cramping, but quite alot of bleeding straight after - but only the same as after childbirth, so its to be expected and I know you've had one so know what to expect there...

Just gave me a few paracetemol and chilled out for the night and next morning went home as soon as I was dressed and nagged them to discharge me.

I promise you will be fine, its just so unfair you have to go through this now after going through the medical...but least you know it will be all cleaned out ready for you next try if thats what you want to do...

Abi xx

Hiya

Yes im off work but I had to have a blood transfusion & almost died - (didn't say this earlier as I didn't want to scare you)

Im not sure if there would be any physical need for you to take time off work if you didn't want to? - depending on what kind of work you do obviously, but you should probably take it easy for at least a few days... then there's the emotional healing time to consider.

My advice would be - just try not to worry & wait to see how you feel before making any decision to go back to work before you are ready hun xx

i agree with NickyT75.....

i had 2 days off work for a natural mc. Coming to terms with the emotional side is work in progress....

make sure you look after yourself, you are number 1 here, not work.
