d and c confusion stress

My local hospital couldn't have made the miscarriage experience more stressful if they'd sat down and tried really hard...

Yesterday a registrar told me that I needed to have a d and c because I am still bleeding and testing pregnant after miscarriage began on 8th April. So this morning I turned up at the hospital, having not eaten or drunk anything as instructed, and not got much sleep either because of anxiety, only to be told by the consultant that she would not do the procedure after all. Apparently, because I have fibroids a d and c could actually do more damage than good!

I am really annoyed because of all the unecessary stress, and what's worse is that now the miscarriage saga is carrying on with no definite end in sight. I am also cross that I wasn't told anything about the fibroid risk yesterday, when I gave my supposedly 'informed' consent to having the d and c. And now I've looked fibroids up on the internet and find that a d and c is actually a treatment for them!

Totally confused and at sea...

Becca

Hi there, I am sorry I don't really have any advice as I don't have any experience of this, just didn't want to leave your post unanswered, sounds like they all got their wires crossed which is just awful for you, I would ring and see if you can speak to someone at the EPAU who might be able to advise you properly, I will have a look and see if I can find any info for you

hope you are ok

I have googled it but can't find anything relevant, sorry, hope you get it sorted x

Thanks for your nice post. I don't really expect anybody to have any answers but it does help to vent!

Sorry to hear they are giving you the run around. That's the last thing you need at a time like this.

Hi Becca, I'm really sorry you're having to go through this. I have fibroids and I have had a D&C, so I can't believe that you can't have one, especially as you have to carry on with the distress of your miscarriage. I would really get another opinion, go to a gynae and tell them you are very upset about the continued bleeding. Good luck to you xx
