Missed miscarriage advice

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice. Had very mild brown discharge last week phoned Gp who sent me to EPPC midwives said pregnancy sac too large and baby only measuring 6 weeks. I thought I was only 6 weeks althogh Gp said 8. (5 week cycle usally). Said maybe a heartbeat not sure and to come back in a week. Got in a right state and friend suggested I get second opinion which I did Wedneday.
Now told my dates are probably right but no heartbeat. To go back Wed to discuss options.

Has anyone been here before?

Does this decrease chances of going to term if there is a next time?

Hi I have just had a missed m/c I was just under 8 weeks, when I went for my first scan I had just had the same as you, some brownish discharge and one small amount of red blood (size of thumb nail) - they said they could see the sac but nothing in it and another thing which looked like cells inside another sac (maybe twins?) they said I would have to wait a week and go back for a repeat scan and that hopefully the baby/ies would have grown and would be seen but if not it was possible i was starting to miscarry, anyway to cut a long story short, that was on the Thursday and on the saturday I had a big bleed with clots so went for the repeat scan on the following Tuesday which showed the second sac had gone and the first had shrunk. I was devastated and opted for medical management - I am still bleeding and cramping now.

Please don't be disheartened though as a lot of people seem to have seen an empty sac at their first scan then a week later the baby is there, plus a lot of people bleed in pregnancy and go on to full term.
hope you are ok

sorry just re-read your post and see that you have seen the baby, maybe you are just not as far on as you thought, my midwife said it is hard to hear the heartbeat below 12 weeks?

It's very hard to hear the heartbeat that early on, it's hard until the 15-16 week mark (my OB had problems finding it at 13 weeks but told me that it was quite normal as the baby is so small).

Iam not holding out much hope as it was an internal san and the consultant was adamant that a heartbeat should be seen even if I was the 6 weeks I thought and not 8 weeks. I would like to try again eventually but am worried if I choose a D & C that this could damage my cervix as I have not even started to miscarry. Absolutely no more symptoms of miscarriage but sickness and other preganacy symptoms have gone too.
Also worried about whteher if I did try again this would happen a second time. This was my first pregnancy and was soo exicted now..................

Thanks for your replies this is the first time I have ever posted a message.

Hi, thoughts are that just because you have had one m/c there is absolutely no reason that you should have another, read the sticky thread at the top of the miscarriage forum it is called Facts and myths, it helped me to understand that miscarriage is much more common than you think, I didn't want to have a D&C either so went for the medical management but you can just take the natural route and see what happens - if it comes to that, don't worry all is not lost yet
