Incompetant cervix causing loss

Has anyone else lost their babies because of an incompetant cervix? The hospital told me my cervix couldn't handle the weight of my boys and that is why I lost them.

They were going to put a stitch in when I first went into the hospital but they said that they couldn't cos my CRP level (which monitors infection) was at 49 when it was at it's highest, normally it should be around 10 and they didn't want to do the procedure when it was that high.

I carried on dilating and the following week was when I lost my boys.

Has anyone had this problem and when you got pregnant after a loss did they put a stitch in right at the beginning as a preventative measure?

I am driving myself mad with "what ifs" and I am scared that eventually when I might get pregnant again that this will happen all over again.

I'm sure there is someone who has been in this situation and she is preg again, just can't remember her name. Might be worth posting in the other loss forum xxx

I havnt had one. But have been on sites liike this ever since i had my loss.Froim what i have learnt is that a stich will be put on at around 12 weeks. You will probably be on full or partial bedrest. The stitch gets taken out at 37 weeks ready for you to deliver. The only thing i am sure of is you will be monitored very closly in your next pregnancy. You will probably be consulatant lead care. As soon as you are ready and conceive again then make sure you let your doctor no straight away. The midwife decided at my 1st appointment that i would be consultant lead care at my 10 week appointment and i met the consultant at 12 weeks and things where decided then to do with my care. You will get lots of help hun.

Im so sorry for your loss. xxx

Thanks for the replies. I am still under the care of the consultant and waiting for my follow up appointment to discuss future pregnancies but thought I'd ask on here too.

xx

I hope you don't mind me posting.

One of my good friends lost her first baby at 23+2 due to an incompetant cervix. She had no idea anything was wrong until she went into premature labour.

She has gone on to have 2 healthy babies. One born at 31 weeks and the second at 36+1. She had a stitch put in for both of the pregnancies and they seemed to work well for her.

I hope the consultant can give you some answers at your follow up appointment. x

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I lost my triplets at 21 weeks due to the incompetant cervix. It took a week of being in slow labour and to go from 2 to 4cm dilated. Like your friend I wasn't aware of anything being wrong and cos I had been on bed rest for a week I had told myself it was all gonna be okay.

It's nice to know she went on to have more babie.

Thanks for the reply

x

Hi thanks for the reply hun.

Has your consultant said if there is a percentage rate of it working? Do they give one?

Sorry if that is an awful question to ask. My consultant was going to put one in with my triplets but as I said earlier my blood results for infection were too high to do the procedure and by the time they came down I was 4cm dilated and it was too late and she said she didnt like to "prevent nature from doing what it wants to do" and if I had it put in at that stage I would have ended up in a mess, torn etc.
