Am I miscarrying?

I think I know the answer
I am fairly sure I am out - do you agree?
I am very early - only 5w 3d. I have been having backache this morning (and a bit last evening) and mild abdominal cramping - not severe, just uncomfortable so far. Then I went to the bathroom and saw bright red. That certainly doesn't sound encouraging does it? My BETAs have been rising REALLY well - so to be honest, this is a bit of a surprise (I have 2 healthy boys also and have never had a miscarriage thank goodness).
I spoke to my OB and she said to go on bed rest (which is not easy with a 3.5 year old and a 2.5 year old!)
OB says it doesn't look good with the cramping.

I did spot on and off for 10 weeks with DS#2 (sometimes bright red) but I didn't have cramping like this that I can recall.
OB told me to go to the ER if pain gets unbearable - other than that she said she'd talk to me tomorrow.

I am just clutching at straws here - but is there anyway that this could turn out OK or is it extremely unlikely? As I've said, I've never had a m/c before so don't know that much really.

Hi,

Really sorry to hear what your going through. Fingers crossed its nothing to worry about and try getting bed rest as much as possible. If it carries on a I would recommend you just go to A & E and let them check you out. Dont bother ringing just go as they will only fob you off on the phone as they see it as theres nothing they can do and dont understand how it makes us feel being in suspense as to whats happening. At least if you go to A&E they should book you in for an early scan and hopefully all will be ok and you can relax!! Fingers crossed for you hun xxxxx

Hope all is ok for you I'm sorry to hear this, I lost my bean at 5 weeks 5days had mild cramping the whole time and i wiped one day and had slight pinky discharge, I was told if your not filling pads every 20mins there is nothing to worry about but 6 hours later i was having a mc. On the other hand I have heard of people heavy bleeding and the bean sticking so I think it really is that everybody is different.
Good Luck try and relax even tho I know it is impossible Fingers crossed chick xxx

It is hard to say since everyone is different. But I lost my baby at exactly 5 weeks and 3 days.... I had a terrible migraine, vomited, no backache but extreme cramps - labor pains, really, contractions and whatnot - and was bleeding bright red, some clots, and brown discharge.

Holding out hope that everything is ok with your little one. PM me if you ever need to talk.

Thanks ladies for your replies.
Well, it's slowed to spotting, although I still have backache and feel nauseous too now (I didn't have nausea with pregnancy). I have been lying on my back all afternoon so perhaps that's why it's slowed. I managed to find a couple of friends to take my boys this afternoon. Sound bad, but I wasn't in a particularly good Mummy mood, so that was good.
I guess we'll just see how the night goes and then I'll speak to my OB in the morning.
I just don't know how much they'd be able to see on an US since it's so early - only 5 w 3d.
I just can't see how this is going to be a positive outcome - but I will retain a little bit of hope until I know for sure. If I didn't have the backache/cramping, I may not be as worried.
OB has called me twice today to see how I am doing. She's my new OB and so far I am super impressed!

I hope that this turns out well for you. My first mc presented itself with low backaches and blood. There was a little tissue in the blood. I spotted for a week before I finally had the "labor." My second time I started to bleed and went in that night for an ultrasound. I had previously had two ultrasounds, so we knew there had been a heartbeat and there was no longer one, so the following day I had a d and c. If you are losing the baby, please know there are plenty of people who share your pain and will be here for you. I will be praying that it is okay though. Good luck

Well, the spotting/bleeding had stopped by last night and I had none in the night and no cramping - I slept very well actually. Woke up this morning, no bleeding or spotting - have been lying down for most of the day but I still have fairly bothersome backache.
I spoke to my OB this morning and she says she just wants to wait for the US next Wednesday - that's a week away. She doesn't want to do any bloodwork. She maintains that if I get severe pain to go to the ER.
This is just horrible - it's not easy to stay on bed rest when you have 2 kids 3 and under!
I really really tried to get a blood test but she said it wouldn't tell her anything. I'm also worried about ectopic - my numbers were rising good, so it makes it more unlikely - but it's still in the back of my mind.
I am wondering why I have this backache but the spotting/bleeding has stopped.
