Scared

Hi all,

This probably sounds really stupid...but wanted to ask how your early miscarriages - once completed - were followed up with scans etc?
I had a m/c four years ago and after it ended I had a normal stomach scan to check everything had come away as it should. That was fine and I was allowed home.

With this m/c I had this week, I lost the baby earlier - at 5 weeks - but before I lost it (when I was spotting) I had to have a vaginal ultrasound which I think cos of the panic and upset that day freaked me out.
Now I've definiktely passed all the 'products of conception' at home, but I am meant to go back for a follow up scan and am scared as I don't want a vaginal one if poss...I just want this over with
Can docs tell everything's gone this early with a normal ultrasound?
I probably sound like such a baby being afraid of this but just want to move on from this but i know I should check everything's gone! if they could do it abdominally I'd feel so much better...is that possible this early to check the womb's clear?

Any advice ...?x

Sorry for your loss. I have had 9 miscs, all naturally (no d&cs) and never had a scan to check if all clear. Don't think they would see much on an abdominal scan as miscarriage was early. Good luck for the future

Hi, i have had 5 miscarriages - 4 of these were at 5 weeks. I did not get a scan to follow up the miscarriage but they did check my HCG blood levels to check that my hormones had gone back to normal levels. Before 6 weeks, they don't do an ultrasound as they can't see anything usually. That's why they would do an internal examination. Hope this helps. Don't think an internal is necessary x

So sorry to hear about what happened to you

i had a d&c at 6 weeks gestation.. so not quite the same as i never had a follow up as was given an all clear at the hospital. I had 2 internal scans in a week, but was resigned to it as it was nescessary with me.....

They usually do an internal when they have trouble seeing things (like baby which is small, so need to get closer to it) You are very likely to just have a tummy scan to see if all is as it should be with your womb and uterus.

Hope things go as you wish, and a big hug to you, sweetie!!

Thanks lots everyone. Everyone is so kind on this site. I don't know how I'd have got through this m/c without talking about it and reading over old posts and seeking advice.
Thanks again and will report back...going to have hcg measured in blood tomorrow...groan!
Good look to everyone and baby dust!!!!XXX

Hi, I also had a m/c at 5 weeks and was sent for a scan. They couldn't see anything (sorry if this is too much info, but i was allowed to go to the bathroom 1/2 hour before and I passed a small sac of blood which I now presume was my baby). My blood levels at this point were very low, that I was quized if I even was pregnant, which really hurt.

Thanks Sinead, sorry for your loss too. I can imagine it hurts when they refer to it as ''barely being pregnant' or as if you were never preg at all.
I lost my first one at nine weeks but it had stopped growing earlier.
This one began at 5wks2 days.
Even though it was early it still hurts, cos you imagine what the baby will be like, thinking of the future etc...it's still very raw.
But all I want is to get this over with and start TTC again!
Good luck to everyone xxxx
