Progesterone after a M/C

Hi everyone,
First of all, sorry to read about people's losses.
I am currently having my second m/c. Lost one four years ago at 9 wks and this one was only 5wks2days when started.
I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of progesterone?
My doc gave me some this time to try and stop the 'spotting' (as I thought it was at beginning - turns out was a full blown m/c)
Can it help sustain pregnancy if your levels are low? Anyone had any experience/ going through it now?
I want to try again really soon but am so scared my levels aren't highenough to sustain a pregnancy.

X

HI shockd&amazed,

I am so sorry for what you are going through at the moment. It's just too cruel. I can understand what you are going through as I suffered a missed miscarriage in January at 10 weeks. When I went for my scan it showed the baby had died at 8 weeks and 3 days.

In relation to the Progesterone, I definitely believe that it can help sustain a pregnancy if the levels are low. A friend of mine had two consecutive miscarriages, both at 12 weeks which was devastating for her. On her third pregnancy she was given Progesterone shots every week from the moment she found out she was pregnant and she carried to full term. On her fourth pregnancy she had the same thing done and firmly believes that without the shots, she would have miscarried again. Hope this is of some help.

Thanks ladies and thanks Snowflake. That gives me a lot of hope.
It's so awful after a miscarriage isn't it? One minute I am positive and ready to try again, the next I feel depressed and like a failure.
My OH is trying to be good but sometimes he just doens't get it. I can't even be bothered to do normal things at the moment, just feel like lying about.
Oh well...
Got to keep trying!
Good luck to all xxx

Hi shockd&amazed,

It is a terrible time and I know exactly what you mean about wanting to do nothing but ly about the place. I was lilke that for the first two weeks following my micarriage, then I felt really good in myself for another two weeks and then I hit a low again for a week (must have been PMT) where I felt really off in myself and very teary and depressed but thankfully since the beginning of last week I am feeling back to my old self again. These things take time to get over so be sure to pamper yourself and take as much time as you need.

BTW totally understand what you mean about OH. My DH was really good through my miscarriage but bounced back much more quickly than I did, too quickly I thought but at the end of the day they woudln't have had the same bond as we did with our babies.

Can i ask did you all have hcg monitored after an early miscarriage? Or just let nature take its course?
My doc asked me to have an hcg blood test, but this was before I miscarried and I ended up not going...now I wonder if I am meant to anyway? I can't get hold of him at moment to say I've def miscarried and not sure waht the general norm is nowadays?
When I had my last m/c there was no talkl of having hcg measured afterwards but now I am reading a lot about it on the net and wondered if I am still supposed to have it done?
I was only 5weeks2 days when m/c began and pretty much feel it has all come away now (the worst of it anyway!) but I wondered are you meant to have hcg measured afteR? Is it dangerous not to?
