12 week scan, 5 week sac and yolk but no baby :-(

Hi I've been for my 12 week scan today and they could see the sac and yolk but it all looked to be around 5 weeks with no feotal pole

I'm usually pretty regular and sure of the dates of my last period of 25th Aug so I would be well over 12 weeks by now and I got BFP stating 3+ weeks at the end of Sept.

I know this is an MMC but the midwife won't even talk about any procedures until I have another scan next Friday and they will decide then. I just feel like I'm setting myself up for exactly the same thing as today as I know it's gone now. 5 weeks would only put my BFP at mid Oct which is way out date wise and all my symptoms had disappered by that point.

I'm booked to go to America on 2nd Dec for my birthday so really hoping it will pass naturally before next Friday. If it doesn't I really don't know what to do. Do I go for the medical procedure? they say they could do part 1 on Friday and part 2 on Sunday so I should be ok to fly on Wed but I'm not so sure. Or do I wait but run the risk of bleeding whilst on holiday and maybe needed to find a hospital. So confused at the minute.

Hi

I am so sorry; very similar happened to me two months back, its a huge shock to find out that things may have gone wrong so long ago. I can't really advise on the medical management option as I miscarried naturally but I'm sure other ladies here are in a better position to advise on that score.

Hi

Remember me? - our due dates were around the same time. I am so sorry this has happened to you. My 12 weeks scan should have been today also. My situation is very much like yours except I started spotting at 9 weeks. Scan showed baby as measuring 5-6 weeks but, of course, I knew I was 9 weeks from LMP and ovulation tracking. HCG tests and 2nd scan confirmed missed MC. I waited for 3 weeks for a natural loss but not much happened and so had erpc yesterday.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. The MC board is such a great source of support.

xxxxx

hi sk100. I had seen a few of your posts but you don't like to ask people things directly some times for fear of upsetting people. I didn't realise you had erpc just yesterday, so sorry for your loss. I'm upset about everything but at the minute it doesn't seem as bad for me as there was no embryo so I'm kind of over that bit already. Just worrying about what to do next and the timing.

It's ironic that I've spent so long checking everytime I go the loo for spotting and NOT wanting it to happen but now I'm praying for it to happen.

xx

Also, natural loss is very unpredictable. You can't really know when it will happen or what level of pain and bleeding you will have. Amos2009 posted 2 days ago and said she had d&C after 35 days of bleeding. With medical management, you may bleed heavily for a few days. Also, there may be a risk of retained tissue. If you are going abroad, maybe the erpc is the best option. You won't have much pain or bleeding afterwards. Whatever you decide, have a plan of what to do if there are any complications whilts in America (eg infection, excess bleeding). Not sure travel insurance will cover this if they view it as a condition existing before your travel.

Just an update...

I had bleeding over the weekend and rang EPU who made me an appointment for 11:10 today. Waited over an hour to be seen due to a mix up but then the ward manager could not do enough for me. Agreed with me that I knew my dates and she was also sure that it was a MMC. saw doctor straight away then drove home to await a phone call re D&C.

No sooner had a got home than the ward manager rang me to ay she was trying to get me in this afternoon and then 5 minutes later got confirmation and went straight back to hospital. got there at 2:30, got a private room and OH got to stay. anethetist and cosultnt both came to see me and I went down at 5:10 and then was back home and all done by 8:30. All in all, a very nice experience given the circumstances. Staff were lovely when I was a bit upset and I feel so relieved now I am quite shocked. I just feel like I can get on with things now without the MC hanging over my head.

To any ladies who are worried about it, it really is nothing to worry about. I'm the worst, I hate needles and this is only the 2nd op I have ever had, the other was for wisdom teeth 10 years ago.

Thanks to all on here for your wonderful advice that helped me rationalise things. xxx

I am so very sorry for your loss, but so glad to hear that your procedure went well and your home now to recover. I am a bit nervous about what's to come for me as awaiting confirmation on my missed miscarriage Thurs but still not bleeding so reckon there's little chance of it happening naturally so may have to have a D&C/ERPC. Thanks for sharing your exerience with us and for reassuring us that it doesn't always have to result in complications. I wish you a speedy recovery and all the best for the future. xxx

So sorry for your loss Truly But I am glad you were able to have the procedure done quickly and that everything went as well as possible. To me, once the procedure was over I finally felt like I could start to heal, both physically AND mentally. I hope it's the same for you

Sorry for your loss hun and thank you for the message in my thread reading your post about your D & C has been really helpful and reassuring.

I too am hoping that once I can get the procedure out of the way I can start coming to terms with what has happened and heal physically and emotionally.

I hope you are doing ok hun
