Is it dangerous to conceive immediately following a m/c?

I've read conflicting info about conceiving straight away following a m/c, before your first period. Some sources say you are very fertile and that if you are emotionally ready then go for it. Others seem to say that your womb isn't ready for another pregnancy until you've had a true period.

Can anyone help me out here? I've just had m/c and was v upsetting. However, it was very early stages and physically everything seems to have gone as well as poss for m/c. My OH and I would like to begin trying again immediately, but I don't want to risk harming any future little bean, should we be lucky enough to have another come along!!!

Thanks in advance for any info!

I don't think it is bad to concieve right away or why there would be a problem. I guess having an AF first gives your body a chance to recover from it all but my friend concieved right after a M/C and had a healthy baby girl as a result.

I asked my OB/GYN about how soon after we can start trying again and he said he recommends waiting 2 or 3 months for your cycle to get back to normal but if it happens straight away don't worry about it, it's no big deal! So me and hubby started trying. I will be testing on Saturday woo hoo! lol Good luck!

I thought that the reason they wanted you to wait was to make sure your period is back to normal, probably for dating purposes. I think it's really up to the individual and what you feel most comfortable with. Good luck to you!

Hi Schmelly,

the info ive found /have been told by others is the same, to wait purely for dating purposes (unless one has had complications, but then your doctor would have advised you of this i assume)..

I certainly am banking on being more fertile!! my friend who had a miscarriage last month was told you are, as your body now knows what it is to be pregnant, and is prepared like never before..

im gonna try as soon as , but i guess i can pass on any new info once ive been at the hospital on friday...

Ive also been told that if you want to try again as soon as to just keep on doing what you have been doing before you got pregnant i.e keep on taking the folic acid etc...

ps. when im not in the dumps about this situation im actually looking forward to ttc again and i shall try my darndest not to get to upset about it but enjoy the journey and the hope it brings for the future, all the best and hugs!! xx

Here's my update: As some of you may know, i had the d&c on friday and as soon as i was out, in recovery, the midwife told me i can try again as soon as i want and not to worry bout waiting for 1st period as that's what dc's like so they can easily date things. Im gonna try again as soon as body is back to normal...best of luck to everyone!!

When I went to the hospital after m/c they said to wait at least one month before trying again. I ending up waiting 2 because I needed to be emotionally ready. Now TTC again. I was lucky my cycle went back to normal straight away. Theres nothing stopping you TTC straight away if you feel ready as some girls have been successful doing this. Good luck. x

Thanks girls!

Have just got back from hospital where they checked everything was OK. Apparently I'm completely clear and back to normal even though m/c was only Fri/Sat. They couldn't find any other problems, which was a massive relief.

Nurse said they prefer you to wait one month, for dating purposes. However, the leaflet they gave me said that there's no harm in getting preg immediately providing you are emotionally OK.

OH and I both want to TTC straight away, so we're gonna give it a go! At least we can have fun trying!

Thanks again! Good luck to everyone else who's TTC!

xxx

I got pregnant straight away. I never had another period after my mc. My doctor told me that this was a good sign i got pregnant so quickly as it meant that my body was ready. I took my dates from mc and it worked out the same at my 1st scan at 13 weeks.
