Symptoms after a natural miscarriage

Hi there
I had my first natural miscarriage last Tuesday following a scan that confirmed that there was no heartbeat on my 8 week baby... devastating!!! Since then I have had cramps on and off, some of which have me curled up in pain. I am still bleeding, though it does seem to be subsiding. Does this fit with anyone elses experience? I just assumed once the contents of the womb had passed that the pain would stop? I phoned the EPU and was told this is normal and not to worry but I am so concerned that there is still 'stuff' left inside me!
Any advice?
Thanks
KTP

Hey sweety

Firstly, sorry for your loss.

Have you had another scan after your m/c?

No I had an internal examination and was told that my cervix was closed and that they had removed some 'products' (nice word!!) so there was no need for another scan! Don't know what relevance the fact that my cervix was closed has at all? All a bit shell shocked by the whole thing!

I guess they said your cervix was closed because the pregnancy had come away at that point?

If you are in huge pain, I would contact NHS Direct or your doctor asap.

Bleeding after a mc is normal and can go on for days/weeks.

Lots of love xxx

Firstly I am sorry for your loss...

My miscarriage started last wednesday in the early hours. I was in pain and passing a lot of bloods tissue etc (sorry if tmi) and my partner took me to the emergency gynae ward the next morning. I had a scan and they confirmed that my baby had gone (I was 11 weeks) but there was still a lot of tissue left. They did say I may need a d&c, but i opted to keep it natural.

Had an internal and it showed that my cervix was open, but the doctor was able to remove some of the tissue that was probably hanging out of my cervix (again sorry tmi, but I want to be honest). This did make the pain less as my cervix was not cramping so much (I have later heard that the cramps are actually contractions and the pain is like a mini labour). I was allowed to go home, but had two appointments for another blood test and a scan in two weeks time (to ensure all the contents had gone).

I bled for 5 days and did lose a lot of tissue and clots (quite shocking at times). On the Saturday morning I woke up in more pain than before. It was so bad that I passed out. I would get cramps, have to go to the toilet and then my ears would start ringing and I would sweat - had to put my head between my legs to stop myself fainting again. This happened a few times and then I just felt terribly sick. I vomited and then the pain went.....

Since then I have got stronger each day. My bleeding has almost stopped. I did have a throbbing headache (that pain killers could not help) for 3 days, but this has now gone. No more pain.

I am going back to work on Monday.

Have a scan on Wednesday to ensure everything has gone and then will wait for my AF. Following that we are going to try again.... Hopefully third time lucky - had chemical in January.

This site has kept me sane over the past week. The women on here are incredible.

Millie

I had a natural miscarriage at 9 weeks. My bleeding lasted 2 1/2 weeks and I had some really painful cramps and lots of bleeding. The hospital made me go for a scan to check things out. They then made me go in for regular blood tests to make sure my hormone levels dropped to a level they were happy with. I think they checked this aswell cause your levels might stay higher if you have bits left behinde - dont quote me on it though. Hope your ok x x x
