Recurrent Miscarriage

Hello everyone,
This may be long, & i am sorry.

I am new here & was wondering a few questions.

First of all, ( i was a smoker & had smoked on first pregnancy & quit cold turkey on second ) I had 2 miscarriages since April/09. My first was a natural miscarriage no D&C needed, was about 4w6d pregnant & started to bleed on April 19/09 , bleeding/spotting stopped April 25/09 .. Was told to wait one cycle befoe trying again by doctor. Got my first regular period ( lasted 5 days ) on May 16/09. Started trying again & concieved once again , got my BFP on June 12/09 , quit smoking right away as soon as I had found out & started taking Equate prenatal vitamins on June 15/09. Started bleeding on June 17/09, which was a natural miscarriage once again no D&C needed. Bleeding/spotting lasted until June 22/09. I was about 4w3d. My doctor had told me I could try again right away.

Both time my levels were very low, I have read online that smoking could drop your levels & cause a miscarriage & as well as qutting cold turkey, which actually puts stress on the baby. I have not smoked since June 12/09, Have not drank in a couple of months either. & am still taking my prenatals & haven't missed a day.

I have an appointment with a gyno on July 20/09 , But I was wondering, if it could have been smoking & quitting that may have caused my low levels & miscarriages. & I also had a positive OPK June 28/09, but have not had any kind of shift in my temperature. ( I take my temp every morning ) .. & my cervix is very low, firm & very very open , what could this all mean ? ... I ovulated already & just never had a temp shift, or I am soon to ovulate.
I have not been under any stress lately, & my nipples are real sore to the touch.. The night of my positive OPK I have cramps in my sides near my hips.

Please help , if you need a picture of my OPK let me know i will post it & if you want to see my chart this month, I willl post the link .

Please if someone can help me I would really appreciate it.

I never got much of a temp shift and I had been charting for around 3 years, and I was definitely ovulating every month. The slight temp increase I did get was always 3-4 days after I got a positive OPK, so I never knew when I was actually ovulating from the day of the positive OPK until my temp increase.

As for the smoking thing, no-one really knows.
All I can tell you is with my 1st pregnancy, I stopped gradually over a few weeks stopping completely at around 7-8 weeks, and my dd was born fine.
With my 2nd and 3rd pregnancies I quit cold turkey on the day of my BFP and both ended in m/c.
With my 4th pregnancy (this one), I did the same as my first, stopped gradually over a few weeks stopping completely at around 7-8 weeks and all is well with this one at 24 weeks along.

I did wonder the same as you, if the stopping suddenly was causing a m/c and my GP said she didn't know, but advised me to cut down slowly with this pregnancy which I did.

I think the best thing to do is to stop smoking before you TTC, but I know that is easier said than done!
I did stop for around 7 months between my 1st and 2nd m/cs, but then couldn't concieve!

Good luck x
