Feeling better after ectopic pregnancy

Hi everyone,
I'm feeling much better now although not completely out of the woods. I wanted to share my thoughts about what it's like to deal with an ectopic pregnancy.

My ectopic will never be proven so my records will show "failed pregnancy - suspected ectopic", because they never found any evidence of a sac or a baby on my scans. I received a drug called Methotrexate, administered by injection, on Friday last week. This works by preventing the embryo from developing and thereby avoiding the fallopian tube rupturing. I was lucky - you can only have this treatment if you're well, not showing any signs of impending rupture and the hcg hormone level is within the guidelines.

As I'm now coming out of this, my hcg level had dropped significantly at yesterday's blood test, we now have to wait 3 months before TTC to ensure it is out of my system. I have felt so many emotions - anger, sadness, sense of loss, fear, pain and now relief that I'm getting through this.

With an ectopic pregnancy you don't just have to deal with losing a baby, but also the treatment that follows. It's scary stuff. If anyone else is going through this or has gone through it, I'd be glad to hear from you. So sorry to hear about so many miscarriages but I'm one of the very few (1 in 80 pregnancies) to have suffered ectopic. Take care everyone. x

I am very sorry to hear what you have gone through.
Any loss is a terrible one, and the worry afterwards is always terrible to have to face.
I wish you well, and hope that everything will be ok for you.

We started ttc number 2 in October and I have had 2 m/c in a row. But I won't give up, number 2 will come. Don't you give up, but do wait a while, it pays off!!

I refused this drug it really freaked me out! But I was offered this after going under having an a something vac (basically a d&c) and my levels still raised. The main doctor/consultant said to me "you shouldn't confuse us on a Monday" or something & that basically they didn't know what to do or what was going on now so offered me this drug I was VERY concerned at how they worded this and offering such harsh treatment! Adventurely my levels decreased. Did you only need one boost? Did you get plenty of info? It upset me that you were unable to TTC for 3 months or is it 6 with one injection and I think it was a year if you needed more - it felt like further punishment!

I was lucky enough to catch it early enough and didn't suffer a rupture either.

Its an emotional challenge thats for sure. I was deeply cut!

In response to Wobbles' comment, I'm doing so much better! The description of Methotrexate was quite scary, but not as scary as the description of a laparoscopy. I have been discharged from hospital today as my bHCG levels have dropped rapidly and I've responded very well to the treatment. I still have both fallopian tubes and now I just have to wait another 2 months (it's almost 4 weeks since I had the injection) before we can TTC. My only concern now is that I get a period in the next 4 weeks, so that I know my cycle has returned. Apparently very few people need a second jab. I read up on this drug extensively on the net and its success rate is over 90%. I'm doing fine and I'm a lot stronger now, emotionally and physically.

Thanks for everyone's kind wishes. x
