Does he have a favourite food he might eat. Maybe see if theres anything he really wants to eat - ice cream ( easy if throat sore) or jelly perhaps.

My two went through a phase of leaving there tea, sayiny they were full, or just taking forever, so we stopped all computer/ console play and started a reward chart.

Would somethinh similar work a star if he eats afew spoons, 2 stars for 0 spoons etc. When he gets x stars a reward/ treat ?

Hope he gets better soon.

its such a worry when they won't eat.

I haven't experienced this with the children yet. But as an adult I've had tonsilitis and it is very painful. I lived on soft pasta with lots of sauce, and ice cream for weeks. That said. Maybe try to just get him started with his favorite soft food treat. Something is better than nothing. Maybe even a high protein breakfast drink, like Carnation.
Best of luck to you and I hope he's feeling better soon.

When a child has a sore throat, the first thing they usually do is stop eating.

I feed my kids ice cream or fruit juice popsicles. Sure, not healthy eating but something is better than nothing. Often too, the sugar from them will make them feel a bit better and sometimes they tend to eat something else afterwards.

Also, if you can give something to take away some of the pain, your child may start to eat some. If he won't take it orally there are suppository pain relief medicine that you can also give him.

Good luck and hope your son gets better soon!
