Careers Advice Aged 7???

Not sure if this is the right place for this but yesterday I was reading in the paper that the government were thinking of introducing careers advice at aged 7 in school and was wandering what you all think. I'm really split about what I think. I have a very nearly 5 year old and obviously I want her to grow up and acheive anything she wants but then I don't want her to grow up too fast. It scares me slightly that if kids that age start thinking about jobs they might start thinking about other things there too young for. Also worried that Summer is currently convinced she's going to be a horse rider when she grows up, and I don't want the school telling her that's not a proper job or anything! I think careers advice is important, maybe if I'd been more focussed on what I wanted I wouldn't have left it to 20 and 2 kids later to decide what I want to do but 7 seems a tad early!!!

That's far too early. I wanted to be a singer at that age. Amanda changes her mind every year and so does Jayden. Neither are ready to seriously think about careers. Heck, they have conversations about when they move out and how they will know where mommy and daddy live. Definitely too young.

Im 26 and still dont know what I want to do!

I remember the careers adviser we had at school- we had to fill in a questionnaire and then she told us what job would suit us- they gave me being a nurse- I'm petrified of hospitals, faint at the sight of blood and don't like working with people!

I think 7 is way to soon- the kids may then think that the options given to them are things they have to do. I think choosing which subjects to study at 13 is too early anyway.

I teach in a primary school in Scotland and this has been part of the Enterprise Curriculum for a while. It is not career's advice like the kind you get when when you are a teenager. It is more talking about the types of jobs there are in the world and finding out what people do in their jobs. Kids usually find it really interesting.
