Hi all - new and scared

Hi All
Just found out last night that i am 5 weeks pregnant. My periods have been up and down with coming off the pill so wasn't really aware that my period was a week late! Both of us are really excited but i'm also really scared. Abosolutely no idea what to expect or where to begin. Don't want to frighten myself by reading too deeply yet! Is there anything i should be or not be doing? I've been taking folic acid for a month or so but nothing else. Thanx in advance for any advice and support

xxx

Welcome and congrats to you!! It's very normal to feel so scared. I'm pregnant with my third and I swear I get more and more scared for each child. lol.. Not sure if you are taking prenatal vitamins yet or not but if not, you may want to start them. And of course, keep taking the folic acid. The only other thing I can think of is to call your dr and set up your first appt. Try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy.. You will do great..

Well first of all congratulations It's TOTALLY normal to be scared. I wasn't married when I found out I was pregnant the first time and my son was CERTAINLY not planned... I had irregular periods and was 19. That was almost 9 years ago and things are just fine My son is 8 and totally awesome and looking back I can say I wish I would have relaxed more.

Of course it's good to make an appointment with the doc, get on prenatals (you can get them from the drugstore), and avoid all the nasties like caffiene, smoking, drinking which is all basically kind of common sense I know.. I would also get What to Expect When You're Expecting - it will give u all the info the internet can, but in a nice compact book easy and on hand

I'm new here, but it seems you have a wealth of information as well from the girls here too!

Welcome and congratz again!!!

Thanx all. Feel lots better just being reassured that its ok to be a scaredy cat!! Booked my appointment with midwife for 5th march so just sitting back now!
Have told our parents who are both really excited but no-one else yet. Had sore tummy yesterday but read up a bit and found that they are normal as everything starts to move and adjust. Been feeling very tired but being a pprimary school teacher doesn't help with that!!! No actual sickness yet but the feelings there!
Thank you again xxx
