Advice on Provera and Clomid - trying to conceive!

I am 34 years old and have been trying to conceive for the past 2 1/2 years. I have been diagnosed with PCOS and after recently having an exploratory operation, have been told that everything is working ok, but I am not ovulating each month (I only have approx. 4 periods each year).

My consultant has now put me on a course of Provera tablets (3 x each days for 7 days) to bring on a bleed, following which I will take Clomid on days 2 through to 6 of my cycle.

I am both nervous and excited and would love to hear about the experiences of those in a similar situation. I am unsure when I will bleed following the Provera - some articles say it will be up to 10 days later?! How will these drugs affect me?

I am also starting to get extremely worried about the age factor as I will reach 35 at the end of this year...

Any advice is truly welcome!

Thanks
Hannah

Hi Hannah,

I also have pcos and me and my husband were trying to conceive for over 3 years, and like you i never ovulated and didn't get periods, i saw a consultant who put me on clomid only. As i didn't ovulate she told me to start taking them on a certain day for 5 days and then use the days wisely afterwards, as i wasn't sure what happens with ovulation me and the husband did it every day for 14 days ( we made it fun tho and not a mision. lol ). I then went for a blood test in the doctors to see if i ovulated and she told me i hadn't, i was so upset, she gave me another dose and told me the following month to double the dose and try again, any way the following weeks came close to start taking them again and i felt 't really weird, i asked my husband to get me a pregnancy test as i didn't feel right, to our amazment it came out i was pregnant. Not even the doctors believed me so i had to have an emergancy scan. My little girl is now due on the 26th May, all i can say is clomid is a miricle drug to take so best of luck to you. xxxxxx

Hi Charlieblue,

Thanks so much for your post...it is a lovely story and is making me feel hopeful that I may also be as lucky as you

I am so scared that it won't work, but it is reassuring that it has worked for others. I'm abit unsure about what to expect and have been told to have a scan on day 12 following the clomid - I think I will be devastated if I haven't ovulated, even though common sense and reason are telling me that it probably won't happen and if it doesn't, there is always next month! I suppose it is because I have spent the last few years waiting for next month, but surely it has to happen some time right?

I hope it all goes well for you!

x

Try not to worry to much though hun as the stress can also stop you from ovulating apparently, let me know how you get on. Keep in touch. best of luck. xxx
