I have a mortgage at the minute with the woolich (now barclays) and in the next few weeks I am moving house. I am buying my dads house and he is buying mine, so its basically a straight swap. The solicitor is doing all the legal paperwork etc, however I am going to have to transfer my mortgae over to the new property. Has anyone got a mortgage and moved house?? how do I go about this?

I just rang up and spoke to an advisor and they said they may have to pay my existing mortgage off and open a new one for me under the new property. I am currently a stay at home mum and have no income. My partner pays our mortgage by giving me money and I put it in my account each month. I need to make an appointment with a mortgage advisor at the bank to sort this swap but I am worried that because I have no fixed earning and for all they know my partner could walk out any day so will they still be willing to lend me this money??

Has anyone moved house and how did you go about transfering your mortgage? what happened?

I am moving and northern rock are transfering our exisiting morgage to our new property ... Tis called the home movers package.

Im much the same as Imi, I was 1 year into a 2 year disconted rate deal with out providers so they transfered that over to the new house and gave us a second mortage for the rest of it at another dicounted rate as we bought a more expensive property, so we have our existing one of about £40k and a socind one for £30k. If we had moved our motgage we would have had to pay a settlement fee as we had tied ourselves in for 2 years. So long as your new home isnt lower in value you should be able to switch. Although TBH it might be better for you to look around at other bank rates, we used to be with the woowlich and hated them, plus they were not very competitive rate wise at all.

The best thing you can do is go to an independent mortgage advisor as the banks will only tell you about their products rather than shopping round for the best deal. I wouldn't worry about not being able to get a mortgage, an advisor will take you through all your options.

Going through this at the moment! We have gone with an independent advisor as RBS rates were crap.

in the past I have always had a mortage advisor but this time 'dad knows best' and thinks I should go it alone and just 'get it done' through my own contact with the bank etc. god knows why!

I have a mortgage with abbey, they have been fanatstic! We move house last year, and they paid off my original 101k mortgage and took out another one of the same amount, but they ignored all the fees normally charged to people that pay off a mortgage early etc. and they gave us another great deal for the next 3 years.

All i had to do was phone them, they arranged it all, and sent paper work to my solictor.
