thank you so much for your replies everyone. He really means so much to everyone in the family. I just know don't how we will all do without him
Newt the beak will not grow back. There's a chance it could grow a teeny bit but the whole thing is gone. It was bit off just below the nares. But if the nares had been bitten off too he would have died. Right now we're just worried about him getting food and water. He tried to eat earlier and was getting so frustrated because he couldn't hang on to the food. My mom had to hold him and use the syringe.
We're also really worried about an infection. My mom has to take him in first thing tomorrow and he will need some surgery to take off a piece of the beak because it bleeds everytime he bumps it. I can't imagine the frustration and pain he must feel. He is the most independant bird in the house too. When my dad had him out of his cage he kept trying to pull out my dads beard hairs (bad little habit) but he couldn't and I just started to bawl. Everything he does is different now. How will he groom?? He can't climb the cage.... he can't play with his toys very well. i'm just so sad I don't know what to do
But here are a couple of pics and just a warning the images might disturb some of you.
The sad thing about the cockatoo that did it just doesn't know any better. He was a rescue and never had any love or discipline in his life. All seymore wanted to do was see what kind of food was in his bowl. The cockatoo is pretty teritorial with the other birds and gave him no chance at all....it's only a matter of time before he kills one of the other animals or bites one of us. He almost did a few months back. He charged at my face. Would have taken my nose right off...
