I dont really have any advice but I couldn't just read and run. Just make sure LO had your surname, rae is totally right and while it might seem like he wouldn't be bothered if you want to change it back, people do stupid things.
As for your doctor, I think he behaved very unprofessionally, it doesn't matter if they know more than they let on, they shouldn't allow their own feelings or knowledge affect the way they treat their patients. Is there any way you can see another doctor, or maybe someone you can just talk to, to try and rationalise the way you feel right now?
