| F-ing Electric Company! (Long) Soooo mad right now.
My husband and I just moved to a new rental house in a different town. I called up the electric company to get put in my name. The woman took all of my information, made the change in her computer and told me I needed to get her a $275 deposit by the end of the day to keep the electricity turned on. WTF? I explained that I could not have it by the end of the day. Asked if I could pay it on Friday when I get paid. I thought that was reasonable. She didn't. End of the day no exceptions. So no electricity right now. The little bit of food we have in the fridge is going to spoil by the time I can get it turned back on. That $275 is going to take almost all of my paycheck - nothing left over to buy food. I am 18 weeks pregnant I should not be choosing between food and electricity! The woman on the phone has the nerve to tell me I'm lucky. I could have a 500-600 deposit, which is what a lot of their other customers have to pay. How does a utility company justify setting their lowest deposit rate at higher than most people in this area make in a week and more than a half month's salary for many of their customers? And there is nothing I can do about it. No higher supervisor to speak to. No laws to protect me. No government aid. So frustrated and angry right now it's unreal. |
