Question

DSS and rent

Oh is having to rent out his house, he hasnt been able to sell it in todays climate.
We had someone ask if we accepted DSS. We both looked at each other and sort of shrugged. We have no problem with it, but we are clueless. What does it mean? how does it work? anyone who is renting private using DSS that can let us know would be really greatfull.

Do they pay us? or do they pay tenant who then pays us? how does it work? why do so many people say no DSS? I don't get it.

cheers girls

???????????

I will be claiming DSS once my bubs arrives, i think people who claim it in general are given a bit of a bad name to be honest.

I have a very well paid job in London and have worked for the last 11 years constantly, never claimed a bean...BUT i am on a contract where i am at work so will only be paid for 12 weeks once i go onto maternity and therefore would not be able to pay the £750 a month my flat costs to rent from my private landlord.

I think a lot of landlords/estate agents are SO quick to say NO DSS without looking at each case seperatly as to why they are having to claim...im not a scumbag im a 27 year old pregnant lady who just needs some help with my rent for 6 months until i can go back to work.

Sorry but i get a bit irate as it took me 3 months to get someone to accept DSS.

Its also worth bearing in mind that the coucil pay the money directly to the tennant nowadays and you DONT have to confess to claiming it...so the fact that someone has asked first i would say is a good thing!

Anyone on a low income can claim it..

Hope this helps a bit sorry for the rant

so, its kind of like any other tenant?

they get paid and then pay us?

I'm not really arsed about how people get their dosh as long as the rent is paid and they look after the place TBH

yeah exactly, the Council will pay the amount of rent due into the tennants account and then they will pay you, its exactly the same as any other other person except their moneys come from the council rather than their job lol!

The tenant can also ask housing benefit to be paid directly to you rather than to them.
