I'm Currently Feeling: | Go grab a yellow pages and write down some addresses
I was in the same situation as you 2 months ago, ive still got all the papers, letter draughts and interview technique stuff that helped me find something, if you need any help jsut holler!
Oh and start writing out a job log of who youve written/applied to and what the outcome was. itll help you keep on top of who youve applied to and when they call you back youll have some details to refer to. Ive had a few cases where ive forgotten the details when they called me, including the job i managed to get |

maybe its just me | We only managed with tight budgeting, We dont smoke and didnt drink then so saved alot that way for starters. It is better when it comes to the NHS and rent/council tax but those arent really reasons to jsutify staying on benefits.
Were still in the process of getting the rent and council tax sorted out and i will be getting a form for the NHS stuff on low incomes this week so hpoefully soon we will be fully settled down. |

She does rais a few points. To find a job does take alot of hard work and sacrifices. I sent well over 100 letters, CV's and application forms just in a week to try and get a job. I also really hate using the phone with a passion! but i was even willing to put my fears aside to go into a call centre.
Asking for an aprenticeship would be a good place to start, you could try writing a letter to some places and include a CV asking? I know you probably have asked around some places but you could try going through the yellow pages and find some address of places, guarunteed you will find some that you havent asked at yet.. | Sorry if i caused offence but i find it hard when people say they cant find a job or they want some thing but never do anything about it.
If i try to explain my situation:
All i ever wanted to do in my career was to be a veterinary nurse, i was told i was too thick and had no commonsense, i have been to hell and back to get where i was before i had my son.
Training i went through hell holes being treated like something someone had trod in, told i was an idiot and even got blamed for dogs dying when i wasn't even in the surgery. I eventually was sacked because i dared to speak up, i have been through 6 work places although the last place i was there for 4 yrs. I paid my own way through college and exams by doing part time work during holidays and saving, i couldn't get a grant.
To find a placement i had to send out over 50 letters just on 'spec' to see if there were any vacancies - out of those 50 i had 3 interviews and 10 replies saying thanks for your letter we will keep you on file.
It was demoralising and confidence shattering especially as i was shy and very unsure on my abilities.
Most people wouldnt even get round to writing a letter to a company to see if there are vacancies. So i find it annoying when you write that your oh can't even get the enthusiasm to fill in a form which could see you both financially sound.
If you are both in steady jobs then it will make it easier when you are pregnant as you will be eligable for maternity pay and it will give you a residual income, and you could even study from home whilst you are in a temporary job. Then you can get the qualification you want, you never know you might be eligable for a grant unlike i was. |

In all honesty i guess i do want a degree, because i loved learning maths, but i hate the social side,
i hate lecture style teaching and frankly i wouldnt last more than a week again if i tried to go to uni again. And i feel like crap everytime my dad says i wont be happy in a job without a degree, because he's right. So really look in to home study courses and get an inbetwenn job to cover.. i can understand why your oh is a bit cheesed off if he is going out working and your not doing anything.. i am a stay at home mum and my hubby works all hours self employed to make ends meet and it is very tight we are constantly into and over our overdraft, i would love to go back to work but my hubby prefers me to stay at home and care for our son.
But i dont want to have a job, i want to be a stay at home mum, but the damn government have made sure that's not possible anymore haven't they. make sure you are stable and have a fully supportive hubby /oh family, there are maternity grants, child tax credit and working tax credit.
Why don't you want to work? Do you just want to live on inland revenue hand outs?
Damn it, i sometimes i still think dh would be better off if i just killed myself... now that is just a silly comment and very selfish it even think that, you have lots to offer and your life to live - life is what you make of it
But i'm so bored! I refresh the forum every 5 mins to see if any one has posted -_-' I feel like my a levels mean nothing now. Its like the ONLY reason to get them is to go to uni. No jobs even mention a levels. Its degree this, degree that, or for the really crap jobs they want gcses | I have A levels but have never been asked for them, i dont have a degree and none of my friends have a degree but they al have jobs one has has an aprenticeship, one is doing a OU degree whilst working, hubby is self employed as an engineer he has no degree, one has worked her way up through tescos from shelf stacking to managing and she now manages supadrug in bristol. A degree isnt the be-all and end all. But if you want it then GO FOR IT Prove to your self that you can do it!!
Please dont be a what if!
I'm just trying to offer advice not be nasty. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | hypnorm    I'm sorry to hear you had such a lousy boss when you worked at the vets! And you're not thick! You've just given me some great advice!  In fact, you've just given me a bit of a confidence boost ^_^;
Don't get me wrong, i don't want to be living off benefits! Heck, i wont even take money from my dad. And i know the bit about dh being better of without me was a stpid thing to say. I have, erm, issues there.
Don't suppose you could repeat that bit about degrees not being the be-all and end all could you? I'm under so much pressure from my parents to go back to uni
hypnorm, how can i make it up to you for snapping at you?
oh, btw, anyone, if i wrote on a covering letter / cv that i got a's in every module of my maths a level, would that make a company not want to hire me for showing off? Cause i'm really proud of those a's, but i feel like pointing it out could make me, i dunno, a less desirable employee, lol. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | My cousin has just got a degree from sheffield hallam uni, and now he has £25000 in student loans to pay back, luckily he has walked straight in to a job where he did his holiday work.
I think its unfair for your parents to push you, obviously they want you to do well in life but you need to do it for YOU do what you want to do not because they want you to. http://www.skillstrainuk.com/landing...le&keywords=39 www.computeach.co.uk www.nec-courses.co.uk www.learning-at-home.co.uk
Have a look through these and you might find some thing.
City and guilds certificates are well recognised. |

| Gaby can I just ask how old are you? If you havent had a job yet, is it worth you going along to a connexions office to get some help with job hunting, or if not a jo centre. You can arrange to have an appontment with someone, explain that you have not been in employment before, and they will be able to help you write your and help you work out what sort of work your suited for as well as put you forward for suitable jos, so you dont waste your time going for jobs that you may be under qualified for, they can also help with putting you on courses to gain extra qualifications etc. If you do all this via an appointement instead of just dropping in, you should find they take more time to help you. | | | | Status: Offline
