I'm Currently Feeling: | Maternity pay Afternoon ladies,
Hope you are all well, I was just wondering if any of you knew if I was to hand in my notice whilst on maternity leave would they stop my maternity pay or still pay it??
I'm thinking I can't really afford to come back to work and if I do go back to work finding a few evenings a week would be better than day time. I need to be able to claim Income Support because I'm on my own and can't afford everything on stupid maternity pay but obviously I can't do this until I'm no longer employeed.
I'm just confused what it is I'm entitled to and what I'm not and if I do hand in my notice will they stop my maternity pay?
This is all so F*CKING confusing!!!!

I'm Currently Feeling: | Hello hun. If you are already on leave and have received your first six weeks pay (at 90% of your earnings) then it wont affect you at all.
Im not entirely sure where you stand if you hand your notice in before that as you are terminating your employment and therefore I think you would lose your rights for SMP. You would still however get maternity allowance at £117 per week.
Hope this helps a little bit! |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Erm I think so, Thank you Sparky.
I start my maternity leave on Friday and I have to think about it and make a decision whether it's worth staying employed and possibly coming back or to hand in my notice and sort something else out after my maternity.
So in theory if I wait till my first 6 weeks is over then hand in my notice, I should still receive my maternity pay. Or will I have to then apply for it from the job centre or just automatically still receive it from work??

I'm Currently Feeling: | I would definitely say get your 6 weeks out the way first, make the most of it as you wont be there anyway so get them to pay you!
After the first 6 weeks it comes from the government anyway (work just top it up in the beginning) so it should still come to you automatically as you will have already filled in the forms but I would just check with the job centre to be sure. |

I'm Currently Feeling: | you get 9 months paid maternity leave stay employed and when ur due to go back just dont go back! thats what im doing! you will still get working tax and child tax while ur on maternity leave for being employed! this is 120 a week for me as i did 30 hours a week! and u still get 445 a month flat maternity pay after ur first6 weeks of 90%! all together im on £990 a month! if i left work my maternity would stop and i would go on income supportand my working taxwould stop leaving me on about £500 a month! x |

I'm Currently Feeling: | I thought it was just that first 6 weeks that was affected? I got made redundant at the beginning of my pregnancy and spoke to jobcentre who told me the only difference it would make is that the first 6 weeks I would only get the £117 a week instead of 90% but after that nothing would be affected? |

| I think it depends on your employer. I know if I do not go back and work for at least three months after my maternity leave is over I have to pay back what I was paid. | | | | Status: Offline
