Advice please...

As some of you know, DH and I moved to an new apartment owned by my friends parents. We love this place. It is awesome and large and the right price and in the woods and just a nice to place to raise a kid BUT we have mice. Like several...

Seriously, I don't mind them in the living room anymore because I try to ignore them but last night there was one in my bedroom and since my mattress is on the floor right now, I couldn't sleep. I keep thinking it would crawl into bed with me. LOL

The thing is that since we both love this place, I don't know what to tell DH. I mean, we put in one of those high pitch noise thingys that should make them leave and we set traps. (We got one too.) The thing is that the other ones are smart. They eat all the peanut butter off the trap without setting it off. I am just worried that when we have a baby these mice will be in the room and I don't like that idea.

DH hates moving too so since we just got here last month, I really am afraid to bring up the idea of moving again.

Any suggestions?

PS - I am planning to ask my landlords if I can get a cat but the landlord husband hates cats so I am not sure how well that will fly.

Well if your landlord refuses you a cat, they have the obligation to get an exterminator in as it's not your property. Only way you'll need to pay is if they're in the house because of you (leaving food around etc).

I'd say cat is the best option. Or try getting some mouse/rat poison and put it under cubboards and floor boards.

Can you call pest control as they take care of mice problems too?

See, their are 8 units here and I live in the second largest one. Landlords live in the largest. My apartment is clean and the landlords apartment is clean. I think it is the other dirty people causing the trouble. Crazy thing is that the mice haven't actually gotten into anything. No food or trash or anything. They just run around. LOL

You're best reporting it to the landlords, it's know that mice urinate everywhere as they run around, and alot due to small bladders, so it's really not hygenic.

I'd report it to the landlord. Mice can carry a lot of diseases.

I think the landlord must have an obligation to deal with a pest problem, and you are probably entitled to withhold your rent until they sort it out, if it comes to that. Have you told the landlord yet?

See, that is what I am thinking! I will tell them later today. I will call. ICKY!

I did already tell my friend who I am hoping will in turn tell them as well but we'll see. Crap, if they do not believe me, they can come sit on my couch. Stay long enough and one will run right in.

I live in the woods as well.....and we have had mice problems in the past!!!!
I am all for live traps.....they do work but you have to check on them every day.....
using cats as mice assasins ( sp??) can be a messy job..plus cats can get worms from eating the heads...ewwwwww (
anyway..... the dead traps with peanut butter..work really well ONLY if you put the Pb back far enough so the little buggers don't just eat and run!! ( we caught about one a day for a week last winter)
I actually really like mice/gerbils.hamsters....BUT wild mice are dirty and can spread disease thro their pee and poop, especially with babies in house.
Good luck.. and hopfully your landlord will make sure all apartments are mouse proof.
p.s. a mouse can fit thro the smallest holes....so fill any you see.
